Well the M Coupe is an awesome car. I'd say do it, but only if you can be happy with the car as is or else modding it will cost you big time

E30 Predicament..Help!

Being the same age as you and owning an M Coupe, I'll throw in my 2 cents. The M Coupe is an awesome car. Like nothing else, as you know. It's a grown up E30 in many ways. Compared to my E30 it's a luxury car, with a yellow one I can only imagine the attention you'll get.
It was and still is the only newer BMW I wanted (ok 1 Series tii), although I guess I'm picky. You can easily blow a lot of money doing a swap, the same amount you'd be spending on the coupe so really it's a choice you have to make.

hmmm, clown shoe vs. e30...Dan, that's your roll man. You know how much you missed e30 after you went subie, i personally like wht the other guys have been saying about building your own car, but you can't really take advice from me, i just got back into BMW as well.

Actually he will be paying for insurance, which is definitely a relief. BUT, he has maintained the car extremely well, so as far as maintenance goes I'm 90% certain that nothing will happen to it for a long time.
As far as modding goes on the Coupe, i would not need to modify it for a long time; they are such amazing cars stock, so I do not see a reason to modify it for a while. I like pushing my cars as hard as I can stock first, finding their limits on the track and utilizing stockness, then upgrading(what I did with my last E30 and Subie).
If I go for the M Coupe, I risk losing all of my savings, or a good chunk of it; when I go to Art Center for Film Production, I will be so involved with school i doubt I will have time for a job, so coming out of school I would have little to no savings $, which I DO NOT want.
E30 = $ in the bank + E30 awesomeness - Power.
M Coupe = Crazy Performance + Unique Look - 2(3) Seats - Savings.
Thanks again for the comments! They are all helping me a lot with deciding this..My biggest concern is seeing how much I could get for my E30, and then how much I will need to protect the Coupe when I move to Pasadena this coming summer.

Tough situation, I'm not sure what I'd do if I was in your position. The E30 and M Coupe are my favorites, in one way I'd love an M and in another way I love my car too much. I'd probably keep the E30 though, old cars are more fun to mess around with and every one is unique.Last edited by Raxe; 12-31-2007, 01:04 PM.

But is all seriousness. I'd keep the E30 for money reasons. If you track alot then your going to have to seriously look at tire pricing. If you got the M then decided to start AutoX'ing with it your tires will need to be fresh and you will need to have backups. I'd keep the e30 and just use it til your out of school.

Well without trying to sound arrogant etc, I do think I am a pretty responsible person and know how to take care of my things. I won't abuse his car, at all, but I will drive it on the track at some point, and not at novice levels.
Actually, when I really narrow it down, I think one of my biggest concerns, next to having some savings $, would be that I would feel much more angry if it got damaged then if my E30 got some damage. I'm heading home today so I'll talk to the pops about it, see what we can work out.
I'll keep you guys posted.

Dan, you remember what happened to BJ like a month before MBF when he was tracking his coupe? walled that thing. i would be apt to track an e30 than the coupe, but thats me.
if you do damage it...please record yourself kicking your own ass so we can watch?:)------------------------------------------------

okay so i am prepared for people to say this is a crappy idea, and i would suggest asking your dad first, but what if you sold your e30, gave your dad 10k for the m coupe, and then sold the m coupe for what its actually worth? i imagine that is probably in the range of 25 to 30k or something, but im not really sure. you could then buy an extremely clean e30 and still have more cash than you did before. anyway, its just a thought. it seems like you cant really lose any way you go though.

It's really dependent on your situation. I'd like to have a nicer, newer, more powerful car right now. I could afford to buy an m3 and go crazy with it, but I'd really rather not if it means that I wouldn't have a good amount of money in the bank. I'm 21 and in school too, and I think that the value of the car you own should never exceed the amount of liquid money you have in the bank. Life can throw some unexpected things at you and it's always good to have enough money to be able to take care of something if necessary.
