E30 Predicament..Help!

I'm sure if his dad wanted the car sold, he would sell it and keep the difference.
I know if my dad offered me a deal like that, then I just turned around to sell it and buy back another e30, he'd be pissed :P
The choice is obvious by now, if you have the funds to keep up on a newer car, then the M coupe, hands down. Anybody who would rather have an old e30 vs. a shiny m coupe is just lying to themselves.

He actually took the registration papers to a BMW Dealership today looking at getting a car for himself(since the Coupe would be gone, and he doesn't like DD'ing it); and the mom told him to think about keeping it since she knows it means a lot to him, and to think about saving it for me after college.
So, he could have sold it, and if he wanted to use the money for it(for me, or him) he would have done it already. So I think selling it is out of the question right now. We'll see where things go, I already found an enthusiast who is a best friend of mine extremely interested in purchasing my E30, so we'll see where things go. Thanks again for the input!

you arent going to get your money back on THAT e30 when you sell it. so consider that like a $2K loss at least rite off the bat. but if you have $4K in savings that you dont mind spending, then i say get the Mcoupe for sure.IG: @Baye30

M-Coupe, for sure. It's got a suspension very similar to the e30, it weighs similar to an e30, it looks like a fucking crazy hotrod with those agressive flares, and it is free of almost everything that would turn an e30 off of later BMWs (electonic nannies, big weight, overcomplicated electronics). The color will grow on you I bet. I would not miss this opportunity if I were you.

Personally, I say, being in school, wanting to track the car, and keeping a budget that allows a young guy to enjoy life (i.e. hang out w/ friends travel, mods to the e30., etc) verses just enjoying driving and maintaining a car (M Coupe) I would think the e30 is a better choice, FOR NOW...
Plus, anyone who has had the mod bug will only be satisfied with a "stock" automobile (///M or not) for so long. And how much does it cost to repair an axle, shifter, fender quarter panel, etc on the E30 verses the M coupe if a track related issue or accident were to happen?
Oh and how would you feel if you damaged the Autographed "Livestrong" ///M Coupe?
For now, E30 FTW!!!

Instant gratification not withstanding...you are going off to school...in LA...door dings, parked outside or in covered for extended periods, Dakar is a very noticible color and the local LEOs would just LOVE to ticket "rich kid driving a BMW while I am sitting behind the wheel of this cruiser grumble grumble" (especially around a University), someone gets pissed at you and keys it, tire replacement and other upkeep, etc. Keep a car that you can aspire to, most people's college cars wer just that...older cars that got them around while in school. Mine was a VW Scirocco (still love those). Not saying I wouldn't take it...but it is always nice to have some cash in the bank JIC.

So for now guys, it sounds like I'll be keeping the E30, but I am still gonna list the E30 for sale, and just see if I get any bites. My best friend already wants it, and he will pay a good penny for it :)
Thanks again!

It sounds like your dad isn't going to sell the M coupe to anybody but you so its still going to be available to you in a few years when you get of school. With that in mind just wait on it and when you're really ready to take care of the car with a garage and everything it deserves it will be there.
For now the e30 is a find daily driver that fits your current life well. Also you don't want to go through the hassle of selling your E30 and then trying to find another one later down the road.

keep the e30 man
track the m coupe then wreck it and try to find a donor shell
i assure you you will be MUCH more comfortable pushing the limits of relatively common $4k car than in a increasingly rare car thats EASILY worth 5x thatOriginally posted by ebelementsAlso, for those who don't know, negative camber is the greatest thing since sliced bread(panera). Even tire wear is for city busses and the elderly.
