SO I got a speeding ticket today, and because I am under 18, my license will be suspended for 90 fucking days. This really sucks. I was looking at hiring a lawyer to win this out but they are expensive (1500$). If I appeal it, and I go before a clerk magistrate is there anyway I can get rid of it?

What I did when i got a speeding ticket in NC is, I called a lawyer in the county that I was pulled in and told him about the ticket and that I wanted it to be taken care of. Didnt want it on my record, no license points, no insurance rate increase, ect...
He said alright, im going to send you some paperwork and you send me a check for $300 and I will take care of it.
I asked if I needed to meet up with him or anything and he said no, I will take care of it all.
I sent him my $300 heard from him about a month later saying everything was good and that if I ever need anything again to give him a call.
Pretty much what they do is, most lawyers are friends with the judge or someone and they will take the money, go buy some drinks, play some golf or whatever and then remove the file from the system.

Umm, yeah, right.
It may be a racket in many ways, but it definitely does NOT go down like that.
Traffic lawyers know how the system works, and they use that knowledge to make $$ and stay in business. Basically, they (or someone in their firm) is in court all day long representing people who have traffic tickets. They talk to the DA or ADA and they know what the DA and/or the Judge is willing to do in 99.9% of the cases. Most states have some sort of loophole, basically it's a charge that you can plead guilty to, but does not usually have all the punishments that many of the speeding charges hold. In NC it was "improper equipment"- but they've recently begun cracking down on that big time. The lawyer would basically talk to the DA before court gets started for the day, and tell them that their client Mr R3V made a mistake and got a speeding ticket- but that since he's normally a very conscientious and safe driver who obeys all traffic laws, he'd really appreciate it if the state could cut him a break and he'd be willing to plead guilty to improper equipment (or some other lesser charge).
I know for a fact that this is how it happens in NC, I imagine other states are similar, BUT you really need to talk to someone who is familar with your state's legal system- and preferably someone who has experience with the town or county in which you were charged.
Shop around for a lawyer, ask in some of the local car enthusiasts forums for some advice.
AND don't speed anymore. ;)
