    How to cope with depression

Heya everyone, as u know i have been through a rough patch in my life recently, and recently... well the whole time, i have been fairly depressed. i was wondering if any of you have been through something that really bummed you out and how u got over it or delt with it.

    what i have done:
what i used to do before the accident was go for a drive, although we can rule that one out.
at first i had been taking 'st. johns wart' but i cannot take it anymore because during anestheia (sp?) it can cause bleeding or something.

currently im kinda running out of options other than friends dropping by and sayin hello.

    what do yall think?

Hmm, wish I could help. When I get reallly bummed out, I do the same as you used to...Go for a looooong, soothing drive.

I would suggest inviting a lot of your friends over so there's never a dull moment and just hit up some pool or something.

I really wish I could recommend something better for you, but I don't think I do anything else but drive. Good luck man.

I'm not exactly sure how mobile you are, so this advice may or may not help.
Earlier this year my dad died of cancer and I had a real tough time with it, considering it was my senior year and I'm only 18 and I still have my whole life ahead of me that I wanted to spend with my father.
In order to get some semblance of my life back I realized that I just needed to get back in the habit of doing everything I did before he passed away and just have people around all the time to keep me occupied. And I think that is the key, keep yourself occupied and you won't have enough time to sit and think about what's wrong at the moment.

How is the weather there? Get outdoors and get some sun as much as possible. The production of melatonin has a side effect of also producing vitamin-d which (a deficiency) has been linked to depression. If you HAVE to be indoors play video games instead of watching TV. Something more involved and long term will have less a damaging effect on your psyche.

When my friend was killed it helped to focus on something available to me. I dont know how much of your first aid or therapy is in your hands but you can focus on what you have to do to perfection.

Possibly something educational. Since your mobility is hindered you could do something like learn another language or start early on what you will need to know for next semester. Not to mention you can read books outdoors.

Damn, you beat me to it. My advice would be to lock yourself in the same room as your copmuter, with about 1-2 boxes of tissues and some baby oil.

Just do stuff to keep your mind occupied...like hobbies...

i know it sounds lame, but i really enjoy car modelling and stuff. when you are doing it, you just focus on what your doing and time goes by pretty quickly.

you could try some kind of instrument as well, but then you would have to buy one. If you have a guitar, simple tabs are fairly easy to read and learn.

Also, remote control cars are fun, especially nitro powered cars. I actually started this last summer but when i went off to college i didnt really have time with it. But they are definately fun especially when you live beside a construction sight or something.

                Hope this helped.

yeah man, i had an operation a few years back that took me out for a while. pretty rough time. i guess you just gotta keep your head up and think positive, and try not to let your mind linger on the negatives. definitely keep busy as much as possible, keep your mind off the things that are getting you down. You need strong will, but just try to keep looking at things in the long term, where you wanna be when you get out of the situation. dont focus on the short term.

and talk to ppl if you need to get it out. i didnt, and it fukked up some relationships with ppl, cos they wanted to know what i was going thru, but i didnt let them in. i blocked em out, which drove them away.

but yeah, i dont know, everyone deals with things differently, so just do your thing man. and dont forget, you aint alone.

If you have clinical depression, 'doing things you like' won't help you at all. It's caused by too little seratonin being produced. Meds are pretty much the only thing that can 'cure' clinical depression. But if you're just bummed out over being immobile and whatnot, getting outdoors and such will probably help out a bit.

why not combine all these novel ideas and get naked outside, jackoff, drink alot, smoke pot. no, but in all seriousness, you will be ok man. Life will soon change for you, hopefully new car, more mobility, ect. There is light at the end of your tunnel!
