You can give my brother a good slap on the back of the head for me No not realy, He lives and works in New York. So I've been there 2-3 times we've never done much site-seeing. But My dad went up for a weekend to meet his new Girlfriend he is living with. The went to the Statue of liberty but couldn't go up, Elise island, Natural history musueam and some other places.

5 days in Manhattan? You'll barely scratch the surface with such little time. Here are some of my suggestions:

Times Square - even a frenzy at midnight

Empire State Building - very cool Art Deco theme architecture and amazing views from the observation deck

Dave Letterman Show - arrive early to get tickets (located in Times Square vacinity)

Moma (Museum Of Modern Art) - if this kind of thing interests you, its worth checking out. During my visit there (in summer 2001) they had a cool Andy Warhal (sp?) exhibit.

Central Park - this is one big f-ing park. Checked out a reggae concert while there....on a Wed. afternoon no less!

Radio City Music Hall - I didn't get to actually see this, but they have tours there.

That's just a small sampling of what you can do. I heard that there's a tour guide service that will take you by Seinfeld's Soup Nazi establishment. If you want to get some good Italian food, you can't wrong in NYC. I found a hole-in-the-wall pizza place near Central Park. Not the classiest place in town but damn good pan pizza ;)

I would go to Conan before Letterman. Conan is funny.

go to Cosmics on W58th and Broadway, its a small cafe/resturant type place, they got very nice people great food and excellent cheese cake. its right at the SW tip of central park. Radio City and the NBC Rainbow Room face each other in Rockafellar Center and are pretty neat to check out, go to a show at radio city if you can. St Patricks Cathedral is pretty neat too, i think its somewhere on 5th Ave not too far from all the commotion, but i could be wrong. going on the roof of the Empire State building is also very worthwhile, as was the world trade center's deck on the roof. the statue of liberty is going to be packed, but if youve never seen it, then it may be nice to see it up close

Check out Grand Central and if you have time to kill Ellis Island. They just rennovated it and it looks great.

There are some sweet stores to check out on 5th and 6th including an AUDI dealer on 4th. Hermes (pronounced Hair-mess) is a funny store to check out, they have some insanely expensive shit mixed in with some great quality clothes at reasonable prices.

One tip, if the light changes either follow everyone against the light or change direction to follow the light and cross to the other side. During the workweek you WILL get trampled if you stop.

Also take the train down to Wall Street but get off one stop short (forgot which one exactly but if you ask a businessman he will tell you and you will come out to the oldest existing church/graveyard in NY and a lot famous (historically) people are buried there. Then its just a short jaunt down to the NYSE (hopefully all the construction is done) but get there early and definately before 3.

Sadly the WTC is gone, it was a HUGE complex with a mall in the basement but nevertheless....

If you dig it see a play on broadway (you can get tickets same day, in times square while you are there, but you have to wait in line). If you have your mom/girlfriend with you check out any of the higher end hotels. They have great bars and there are limo drivers usually hanging out bored ass hell and will drive you to the play for $25+ tip or so (I do that all the time, its fun and costs just a hiar more than a cab).

If you run definately hit Central Park in the morn, its a beautiful run.

you can also ride out to the statue of liberty but I dont think they are letting people in it. If the line is hella long then just go ride the Staten Island Ferry. It takes you close enough to see the detail of the Statue and actually makes for a better picture because you are not so close.

Like said these are just a handfull of things I do when I am there and this is just Midtown/Lower Manhattan.

if you go drinking or stay out late either be back by midnight or stay till last call because they dump thier trash at night and at midnight its like a hurdle event.
                        Im now E30less.

No. Maybe the food in socal just sucks. Or maybe i've never been sober whenever i visit NYC.

Then again...you have a unique taste.

There was a big lawsuit in NY about who could call their pizza shop Original Rays Pizza. And on an episode of Seinfeld, Kramer called Jerry to pick him up and he said he was in front of Ray's Pizza. Then Jerry responded, "Original Rays?" It was a joke about the whole lawsuit.
