Shelby SuperCars' now fastest street car

As I said on a local forum...

When you're talking about budgets for cars that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, getting an engine to put out 1000+ HP isn't difficult, adding enormous brakes and top dollar race suspension isn't difficult, fitting that into your tube-framed carbon fiber chassis isn't difficult, adding huge wheels and sticky tires isn't difficult.

It's the over-all package that counts. Once this tube-frame monster hits the Nurburgring and starts destroying records with it's 1000hp and 250+mph top end, then I will be impressed. Somehow I don't see that happening. Somehow I think the only purpose of this car was to say "OMG WE BEAT THE VEYRON!! LOOK AT ME!!".

The Veyron, on the other hand, is not a race car. It was built as an engineering experiment and it was a complete success at what it sought out to do. In my mind, it is the ultimate GT car.

Not saying the Shelby isn't an awesome car. I just don't think it has "beat" the Veyron in any way.

Damn, I just read the whole rest of this thread, from where I left off with my last post replying to Heeter. I just decided that he has his point of view, I have mine, they differ greatly, and going on and on and on about it wasn't going to get either of us anywhere, so I just let it go. And he did get me on what I said about the drivetrain being in contradiction to something I said about it before, so be it. I still never said I liked the cars looks.

If not, please remove FTW from your post. Consumer reports, videos, and pics on the internet are not acceptable criteria by which to form an opinion.

I've owned several Corvette's and my last one was a C5 Convertible.

I'm a member of corvetteforum.com and have read about the car extensively.

My personal preference is the ZR1 aka the "Blue Devil" as it is a great 'bang for the buck car'

I haven't driven either the ZR1 or the Shelby, and I assume you haven't either so what's the point?

My personal preference is different then yours, so what's the problem?

The 0-60 numbers and the 1/4 mile numbers are pretty close, but the Shelby will win the race above 200 MPH, but no one is ever going to see that number anyway, so why spend 500K more?

I'll take the ZR1, add a few mods and have a car that puts up similar numbers from 0-200 for a lot less money.

Again, my personal preference, so what's the problem?

I don't tell you what/how to post, so I would appreciate it if you would extend me the same courtesy, and I'll form my own opinion any damn way I please, and I don't need you telling me how to do that either.

Mosler is still cooler, albeit not as fast because it races and wins, as opposed to solely going for a record.


SSC just twin turbo'ed a corvette engine and went for a record.

on topic: it looks like a mclaren F1 with lambo doors. how come no one can design a original car anymore? everything has to look like something else already made......unless its a veyron, lol.
