I'm not sure if he's still selling them, but there are polyurethane rear console bushings for sale in this thread at e30tech.

Actually, I could be wrong, but I think you can. I think it's just the early transmissions that can't swap over to the aluminum carrier, it doesn't have the right mounting point.

How does the front portion of the sheet metal carrier mount? To the body or the tranny? Hmm...

The front of the sheet metal console mounts to the tranny, so it's tranny specific.

1987 E30 m3 Z4 2.5--- euro dogleg trans. fits great didnt need to bend anything- has a shifter style alot like the newer alluminum style, just and old skool metal counsole mount to the trans.
the Z3 M coupe lever rubbed on everything, and shifted like crap on the dogleg M3

1987 "facelift" Z3 M coupe fits great, shifts perfect.

Got most parts here for a rebuild, I just want to confirm if how I have it layed out is correct.

                Reference - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...02&hg=25&fg=05

The gearshift rod joint 25117501309 (came with the plastic washer 25111434194 already inside for some reason?) is "L" shaped could be installed two different ways on the selector rod 25111220501. How should it be installed ?

Also, is the rubber O-ring 25111221243 supposed to be on each side of the gearshift rod joint ?

Real-oem picture isn't 100% clear on this. It does list two o-rings and also a "spacer ring"

                10 O-RING10X2,2 2 09/1985 25111221243 $1.40
                11 SPACER RING16X10,2X0,65 1 09/1985 25111220199 $0.10

I have a sheetmetal console cuz my tranny swap was from an 86 325es, but it's in a 89 325ic. I have all new parts and M coupe shift lever and somehow I didn't have to bend or modify anything, it all just works, and works well. 1 shift cup, spring, etc.

How does 1309 go on 0501, the way I have it pictured or needs to be flipped 180 degrees ?

                          1. take the shift knob off.
                          2. remove the shifter boot.
                          3. chock the tires, jack the car up and support on jack stands.
                          4. under the car above the drive shaft you will see the selector rod.
                          5. unclip the c-clip from the selector rod to shifter and to tranny.
                          6. take a 13mm wrench and use it to hold the top bolt on the console.
                          7. take a 13mm deep socket, and ratchet to remove each side.
                          8. now get a 13, 15, 17mm socket (not sure mine was 17mm my brothers was 15mm) to revome the rear bolt that holds the console.
                          9. once the two front and one rear bolt is removed you should be able to wiggle to out.

For those that just got a lever and nothing else, you have to undo the big c-clip that holds the lever in the console, then pull it out. To swap over the old stuff you need to carefully cut the plastic ring and metal ring. Then sand the edges a little so it doesnt bind on the new lever. Reinstall the lever and add a little grease.

                          Install is reverse of removal!
                          84' 318i m30b35 swapped!

Did you guys have to file the inside of the upper cup to make it bigger in order for it to slide on the shift lever or did you take the shift lever apart ?

                              Bump, doing this install tomorrow.

The ball cup lower (25111207744) barely can fit over the lower section on the shift lever, but fits into the metal console. How am I supposed to fit the ball cup upper (23411466110) on the 1pc shift lever w/o destroying it ? The old lever is 2pc, so the top section comes off, then the ball cup upper is installed and the two shift lever sections are assembled together. The z3 1.9 shift lever is 1pc unless I take it apart???
