I was a poor boy and didn't get my first car until I was 25. My mom died and I got her 1986 Plymouth Reliant (a Chrysler K car clone).
Prior to that I had a Honda motorcycle which I had to sell for rent money my first semester in college.
I bought a 10 speed to get around but got broadside by a pick up truck on PCH one night on my way home from work. Figured I wouldn't push my luck anymore and decided to stay off 2-wheel vehicles for the rest of my life. So I took the bus everywhere (RTD and OCTD).
Despite not owning a car, I put myself through college as a valet and got to drive all kinds of stuff. It was a nice/expensive restaurant so I'd get to drive all the latest luxury cars and sports cars. Ferrari testarosa, lamborghini, porsche, mercedes, bmw.... I once parked a 1940's era Bentley that was a right hand side steering wheel. The manual transmission had the shift lever on the steering column. One joker asked me to park his custom chopper and another comedian/truck driver let me valet his big ol' Peterbuilt rig. Scary as hell moving that rig next to all the luxury models. Then the truck driver's dog (which he didn't bother to warn me about) jumped from the cabin and started weaving between my legs while I was parking the rig. It was while I was a valet that I got to park the brand new BMW 325ic. It was love at first sight. Before that day I had never been interested in cars. Couldn't afford one for myself. Just washed, parked and fetched other peoples. I said to myself, "one day I'm gonna own one of these". The rest is history.
Boy, reminiscing about my mom dying, getting hit by a truck while riding a bicycle, having to take buses everywhere until I was 25 and owning (not just driving -- owning) a f*ckin' Plymouth Reliant....... Hey, this was a fun trip down memory lane..... we should do this more often. Anyone got any good Holocaust memories?
Cramer, have you had any problems with your G60?...seems like a theme is going with them breaking down alot.
Nope, probably the most reliable car i've owned (the prelude tied that.. the CRX had issues.. so for the most part Honda's hold up to their rep)
Most people say corrados are unreliable because either they are unwilling to maintain them (simple oil changes and fix little things when they go wrong keep the car on the road) or simply don't have the knowledge to do so. I have 185k+ on mine and the orginial motor and charger (seals have been replaced)
