How solid is a Lotus Elise????

    Guess not very . . . .

Telephone pole cut the car in two. Pole is still standing.

    Ouch.

I would imagine that an e30 would fare a similar fate. That guy had to be cookin' when he hit the pole.

Using Colin Chapman's own words, I believe he did, in fact, add lightness.

        from the Cincinnati Enquirer?

Ever seen a board break through a brick wall? Just because it's solid, doesn't mean it will hold up well under certain circumstances. What would you expect a 2000 lb convertible to do anyway?

Well in high school my vehicle encountered a phone pole head on at 40 mph and the pole broke and fell on top of the car.

I imagine this car was traveling much faster, and was much lighter than the explorer i was driving though.

Even though they're street legal, they really aren't meant for anything besides racing, so they shouldn't even encounter a pole.

I bet you the car is not really split in half.

The lotus is pretty much a bath tub with wheels on it with a front and rear bonnets making it resemble a car.

In that pic it looks like it split in half. Most likely what happened is the front bonnet flew off to the side.

The accident was fatal because of where it was hit. Most cars in a hit like that will leave the driver dead.

I had to defend the lovely Elise especially because that pic is biased.

Wow, that is too bad. Any car would have a similar outcome as that one did. Maybe not a split in half, but close to it. R.I.P.
