So by my math, a '91 M3 in 1991 at $35,900 would cost $56,280 today, adjusted for inflation.

Damn, our cars were expensive. Even my '88 325 would be $45k and change today.

Because for $1000 less, you can have a car that gets better mileage, has a smooth inline six, comes in a fourdoor, better for daily driving, much more practical, and almost the same amount of power.

What the hell are you guys talking about? In any given model year the M3 was $10k more than a 325i and $6k more than a 325iS. It's just a little more than the 325iX, which was exotic in its own right.
