Hit max power at an angle of 10º or so. The penguin will skip off the floor several times until it finds a snake to lift it airborne.

What I hate the most are the trees and the snakes you encounter when you are going backwards.

You could also aim for the Giraffies(sp?) mouths and they spit you ahead.
