    Anything wrong with BMW?

    Good Evening Gentlemen!

I have a favor to ask of the good people here.

I am currently in an operations management class and we are to create a business case for any company we wish as our final project.

I naturally chose BMW and I am in need to know if you guys can think of any issues with BMW as it stands now; so if you guys know or think of anything that could be improved with the company; please let me know.

Please just brainstorm / post away; there are no wrong answers or egos.

I greatly appreciate your time gents!

Yeah I agree with the lack of design recently, many people say that.

Thank you kindly for your input!

seems the focus is turning towards luxury and a "older" crowd. less towards a actual "performance" car. i noticed it the most when they went away from the traditional orange cluster lights and simple gauge layout.

i drive is a waste also.

Is this like problems in your eyes? Or real problems?

They're trying to hard to appeal to the majority, and losing their roots...No more light weight no nonsense cars anymore. But that's good in a business sense.

very true. but to us enthusiasts it sucks. so which is more important?

me and my dad were hoping with the 1 series that they would make a modern day e30 out of it. light, basic, decent power, not a lot of electronics. but that didnt happen either.

Yeah i agree with the 1 series. If that car was an even 3000 lbs i would consider it a modern day e30, but that just isnt the case. Most of the issues mentioned are product based from an enthusiast standpoint. From a business standpoint i think BMW is spot on, all the way down to opening a new plant in the US and starting to layoff workers in Germany.

Maybe to you, but the "Bangle" designs are selling better than any other BMW has. I wouldn't consider it a problem in a business sence if sales are increasing. The only way I could see attacking this is loosing touch with the enthusiasts then talking about how that could damage the long term appeal of BMWs.

Reading "tech talk" and "letters" in Roundel and some comments made here it seems as though BMW doesn't do a real good job standing behind their products. E36 sub-floor issues being an example.

BMW needs to simplify things a little, too many electronics. I say go back to the basics, lightwieght, agile, and reliable.
