I'd skip the E36 GT, it's fragile (engine is notorious for being... finicky) and has relatively little to recommend it. The E30 Sport Evo is fun for historical purposes. The E36 3.2 Euro is possibly the most fun to drive. The E46 is less of an evolution than I'd like. I'm told, OTOH, that the E90/92/93 is something else.
