Mountain carving in my e30 (video)

Ttitle says most of the story. 2 miles of winding mountain roads, excuse the shaky camera stand, and the fact that it is talking a bit. He was the only person I could find on short notice to film for me.

    2 minutes 39 seconds -- 22.6MB DivX AVI

    RIGHT CLICK SAVE AS

The video doesn't really do a good job showing speed, but it was in 2nd, and 3rd gears all the time, 90% of the time in 3rd. Speeds ranging from 45-80MPH

Fun stuff, man. Fun stuff. Nice editing. Looks like you had a regular track there.

Damn shame you had to stay in your lane though.

And fix that window regulator mount (as if you wont). That rattle is a bugger.
My mountains are better than yours.

well a driving school would be better than any mod, cause it sure looks like you cant handle it as it is...

cant handle what? dodging pot holes? trust me i handle the car jussst fine. I'm not about to push it to the limits with that much traffic and shitloads of blind corners.

That stretch of roads is well known for killing people in headon collisions from people carving over the lines.

              Also worth noting...

              I have 30,000 miles of seat time in a e36 M3
I have 800 miles of seat time in my e30. 650 of which is highway.

Not leaving your lane of traffic on a windy mountain road during a time known to have traffic in the opposite direction would be a good "mod" ;)

Stop talking. Every post makes you sound dumber.

I've ridden shotgun with Jordan in this E30, my last E30, a VR6 Jetta, and an E36 M3. Each of them pushed to the very limits of their handling, and I never got a nervous twitch even once.
He could be teaching a driving school.

So before you go making skill judgements based on one shaky video clip, get your facts straight. I'd like to see you even TRY to keep up with him in the twisties.

Kondour's right, you know. Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach him to fish, and...

Driving school is the only upgrade you can transfer from one car to another in 0.00 seconds.

800 mi of seat time? I did that within the first 12 hours of taking the keys to my 5er.

I also have ~1k miles of seat time in a e46 M3 Cabrio, ~400mi in a 493hp '03 CL55 AMG, 20k in a Jeep cherokee, 6k in a 88 420SEL, 1k in a S500, 300mi in a '02 SL500, 1k in a '03 Chevy Silverado, etc. ad nauseum. A lot of cars, a lot of miles, in a lot of different conditions, and I will tell you, your 'seat time' in one car will not transfer to another.

I can't count the times an autocross instructor has driven something like a VW GTI and waxed the ass of a guy in an NSX, even when the guy had 60,000mi of 'seat time' in the NSX.

But whatever. As long as you don't take any innocents with you.

I think what jordan was trying to say is that, since he hasn't had alot of seat time in his e30 yet, he is not going to push it to the limits or drive like a moron.

My point is, he's got his eyes on mechanical mods, rather than driver education, as a first priority. And education is the one investment you will never lose money on.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, not even Schumi or JPM himself should or would push any car anywhere close to its limits on any road or track open to the public.

Once again, someone dodges the point I make.

Go back and re-read. I have no problems with this dude's car or himself. But he has stated, explicitly, that mechanical upgrades would serve him and his car better than driver's school. Anyone with common sense would know better, as schooling serves an indiividual far more than an individual will ever be served by a mechanical upgrade.

Like I said above, it bears repeating:: I've seen guys in VW Golf's wax the ass off of someone in an NSX, a 944 S4 (or S2, I don't keep up with P-cars), by pure nature of learned skill.
