I had 20% on my E36 and loved it. The legal limit in MN is 50% but i think that with my dove interior it wasn't as noticeably dark from the outside so i never got hassled. I think on my E30 i will go with 20% again. I originally had 50% on my E36 when i bought it and i had it replaced with 20%. I was glad i did as 50% isn't all that noticeable.

Don't know why you'd tint your windsheild. Granted, it'd be kind of mnice - but 50% is pretty noticeable....

yah I'd definitely never tint my windshield

I was gonna do 50% up front and 30% or 20% in back, but after getting a cellphone ticket sunday and having the cop look for anything else he could ticket me for, I'm really leaning toward a legalish 50% all around

I must be the only one here that doesn't like the 1990's "I'm so cool my windows are tinted-so-you-can't-see-me" look - as if you are a rock star.

If anyone remembers euro gray market cars in the 90's, some of them came with a very light tint. Almost with a hint of brown. It looks so euro on BMW's and mercs, and saab's.

If I wanted a limo tint, I'd call limo...It just looks getto when you try to pull it off on a car smaller then a Honda accord.

I have 50% all around. Try to use the metallic type ones 'cuz these will actually block out more sun than the regular 50% tint. This film is called the titanium series, but I can't recall the brand.

Here's a view from the inside.

You and me both. I can not stand the dark tints at all, never have either even back in 1990.

I use 40% on my cars and when I do the e30 it will be done in a 50%, since it is a black car with black interior.

it gets pretty hot here in the summers, its usually 85-90 every day and very humid. I'm trying to block that out a bit, plus I often have to leave my hockey equipment in the car and don't want people being able to see $440 worth of hockey sticks sitting there

also, an e34 is def bigger than a honda accord

Makes a lot of difference on heat, etc and gives UV protection! I love it!! Also have 30 all around. The only thing you have to be careful is the state inspection stickers here in TX. I remove them myself before going to station and then you dont have some moron scraping it with razor and destroying tint. I have had one cop ask about the windshield, and I said that it was factory UV protection from BMW. He still gave me speeding ticket, but I've had the windshield done for almost 7 years now. Anyway, I still know the tinter at the shop and will probably have the car redone next month. The old tint is looking a little "old". I'll post some pics later this week of it.
In Texas the front can't be no darker then 30%. you can go as dark as want in the back. but... i have 20% in the front and 10 inthe back. and you did the windshield? hmm where u located at in tx?

I've got 20% tint all around on my black e34, and 15% on the rear windshield. Best thing I ever did. My A/C doesn't work, and it does a great job of cutting the heat in the car. Also have black leather seats, and they get hot when they sit in the sun. Legal limit here in Ontario is 35% on the fronts, but no one has ever hassled me about it in the 2 years it's been on.

Never considered putting tint on my windshield. I would only do it to protect the dash from the sun, and I wouldn't get anything darker than 70-80%. Wouldn't want to see it.

Too bad I don't have shadowline to match, but I'll be selling the car very shortly anyways.

Funny actually.... when I first got it done, there was some bubbling on the front two windows, and the shop has no choice but to re-tint the front two windows. I left my car with them, and when I came back, I saw my car in the lot and something looked off.... turns out they put 35% on instead of the 20% that was originally there. I couldn't believe the colour difference! You could tell there was some colour distortion with the 35%, but with the 20%, it just looks darker, not different. needless to say, they had to redo them a second time... shop wasn't too happy about that one, but it was their mistake. Owner of the place even started ragging on BMWs, and how it was an old car and wasn't perfect anyways.... I pretty much told him to fuck off at that point.

My next car will be getting 20% all around for sure, nothing lighter. It's awesome for the summer.

I have 20% on my E39. I didn't do it for the "lookit me" factor, I did it because it's 104 outside as I type this and tint helps appreciably. I would recommend 20% and no darker to anyone who hasn't had tint before. Any darker than that and you start to have problems seeing out your windows at night.

By the way, if you search the word "tint" you might get a few hits. :D
