i think in this discussion, a race prepped 8K rpm m42 is off topic as well :P

This is stupid. Just delete the thread if noone can give me a real answer to my question.

I was ASKING before I go and spend a money on a muffler and end up not satisfied. I don't want to go through ten mufflers before I hear something that I like. Jesus.

I agree, it would be stupid as hell just to go with a trial and error method of selecting an exhaust system or "muffler" for your car. It would be just throwing money down the drain. Whats wrong with asking a simple question, good god.Originally posted by e30MattI was ASKING before I go and spend a money on a muffler and end up not satisfied. That's why I want to find something cheap, yet good sounding. I can get an exhaust fabbed up for close to nothing, but I'm not going to sit here and weld on/cut off mufflers until I find something I like. That's stupid, Rob.Originally posted by Rob
besides, you're doing a turbo m50, why bother with exhaust you wont be able to reuse
and also, its not hard to get the sound you want. if the SS is too quiet, get something bigger that flows more.
The M50 will hopefully use this exhaust for the extent of it being NA; I'm thinking of running a 2.5" single setup, and just modifying it to fit when the time comes. When the turbo setup gets grafted on, I'll have to make a new exhaust anyway, which I'll determine after I do more research on it. The turbo project is a year or more off, anyway.

You drive a 325. A 318 will sound completely different through the same muffler.Originally posted by bmw4lifei got a magnaflow on my car and you have heard it ,so what about that?

it'd be nice to get sound clips, like on s14.net with all the M3 exhaust setups.
I don't mind changing my muffler too, it has a strange rattle.~ Go Canucks Go! ~

then get something that sounds good with an m50, like a magnaflow, or dynomax, or borla, or whatever. do like i did, and dont worry about what it sounds like with the shit hole motor....................or better yet, save your pennies for the unexpected shit that will undoubtedly pop up once you start a swap.
your car sounds good as is, i wouldnt mess with itBEERTECH

just loaded up a sound clip of my m42. its a 2.25in cat back system, local universal performance muffler (most probably a Lukey, local version of maganflow).
my car is more intake growl sounding, but the exhaust has a nice note at WOT.
