23 city and 36 highway mpg, just went out and looked at it. A whopping $43k. Definitely doesnt sound like the diesels of old, or even the piece of shit TDI VWs.

the only thing is that you have to have a urea tank filled every 5k at the dealer. Its injected into the exhaust to meet the 2010 US diesel emission requirements. Dont run that tank dry as the car will not restart with out urea in that tank.
I wonder how much that stuff will cost to buy once you get past the 50K maintenance program. On a side note the the US trucking fleets sold 2010 or later will have the same style system to meet the emissions.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

Urea is a nitrogen-based chemical. It's found in urine which is why I assumed you thought it was gross. A couple of its uses are as a fertilizer because as it breaks down it releases nitrogen which is good for the plants and in face creams and lotions to promote moisture absorbance.
In diesels they inject it into the intake or exhaust (not sure) where it becomes ammonia which reacts with the NOx to make water and nitrogen.
For mercedez with urea injection, after you run out, it'll let you start the car 20 times before it'll refuse to run. I dont know what BMW has planned.
This article predicts that urea prices are gonna quintuple after it becomes standard/required. Right now it's supposedly $7.50/gal or so and 7 gallons is supposed to last ~10,000 miles.
Kinda cool, kinda not. I don't like the idea of my car refusing to run for any reason because of a regulation. Sucks.

Kerrath is correct they use it to neutralize the NOx compounds, It is injected into the exhaust, and BMW has a light that kick on when you get low. It wont kill the engine when it runs out but you best not shut it off, if you do it will not let it start again till you get some more in it
BMW thinks the 5 gal will get you 5k miles.
yeah wait till all the big trucks have to start running it then watch the price of every thing go up more as its just more to pass on the consumer with shipping costs.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

The tank fill interval for Urea in the 335d is 15,000 miles, not the 5K miles that's being cited here. BMW planned it so the service-interval oil change times cycled with the Urea tank filling. I've driven the 335d 3 times in the last week: my new favorite car. Performance from 20-90 MPH is astonishing. The X5 Diesel feels like a truck, more so than the 3.0si or 4.8 versions. The 335d feels like a stonking long-stroke V8: amazing engine flexibility, great mileage. My next car.

were still not doing the AD-BLUE (urea) thing on the BMWs over here. Mercedes and semis have been for years now here in europe.
the Diesel BMWs arent that bad and the twin turbo diesels are a buttload of fun to drive. my 320d touring will pull a good 600 miles on a "tank"-- but here in europe the diesel is cheaper-- but the taxes are ALOT higher every year.
you also have to think that a Diesel BMW motor should easily last 400,000 km-- a few turbos later- but block and head- will be fine so for the money it isnt bad. actually though, the gasoline powered cars are back in the running bigtime here-- seems to me that compared to 2 years ago, we were selling more diesels than gas, now its the other way around here.
the twin turbo diesel is really nice in the 535d over here
And my arguement about the whole thing is WHY diesel??????????????? with the "new" direct injection motors- they are getting the same mileage as the diesels and have more power--- the reason the germans are slowly getting away from diesel.

i've been lusting after the Euro market 535d sport for years, a 335d sport may just fit the bill. as for the ppl disapointed by the lack of manual trans, from what i've been reading, they (BMW) say that he dont have a manual trans that will take that much torque reliably (think warranty). as far as the price vs. economy question, the increased mpg is simply a bonus to me, i'm most interested in the 400+ lb/ft at i think 1700rpm.
btw fuck the haters, the E90/92 is sexShoot, move, and communicate...

So the 335d wont come in manual?
As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

Holy Shit
Just thought i'd share.
Just to put this in perspective, I own a diesel pickup with 550#/ft of torque, 7000# truck plus a 20,000# trailer goes fine, and this is in a car that likly weighs 4500#.

The next time the Susan G. Koman fundraising drive comes to my area, I hope they'll have a 335d to sample.
