OK, so here is what I dealt with:
My car is an '87 325is.
Both front fenders were shit, as was the hood and doors, but that is a different story.
I drove a couple of hours out to Bend, way the hell up in the mountains, because one of the local guys there had an 86 325 with very nice condition black hood, fenders and door, for FREE!
So, it is like 99 degrees, 99% humidity, working with no shade in a dirt lot. I did think to bring TONS of tools, so I was all set there.
I pulled my fenders off, pulled the fresh ones off and tried to fit them. They lined up perfectly everywhere except the back edge. Turns out that the vertical panel inside the fender was shaped differently, there was an outward bulge on my '87 that was not on his '86.
Tanking like 1 inch, seriously, no big deal, but not gonna fit otherwise.
I attacked his fender with the tinsnips, took like 1 minute to make enough room to mount them. You cannot see where I cut when the fender is mounted, but there was no way in hell it would fit otherwise.
As they say, YMMV, but the fix took like 1 minute per side, so no big deal at all...but lots of guys here say that there is no difference...and I know better.Comment
