Forced into curb...wheel damage (pics added page 3)

I'll post pics later today or tomorrow.

    The incident
I was driving to my parents house leaving work Friday (3 1/2 hour drive), still in town, and was about run off the road by some lady. Our cars were almost next to each other, my front bumper was about 3 feet behind her front, I was in the left lane. I guess she saw the merge sign ahead and pulled into my lane. I locked up all 4 wheels and had to go left into the curb to avoid her sideswiping me, even then she barely missed me. So now my $470 wheel has a nice 8" long gouge on the lip.

    The chase
She kept going, so I lay on the gas and catch up. I flash my brights and point to the right for her to pull over, and continue to do so for 4-5 miles and she refuses. Finally, a guy in a Jeep behind me flags me down and I pull over. He says he saw the whole thing and she didn't signal and said she did the same thing to him just before. Got his info and got back on the road. She must have stopped because we caught right back up to her and continued to flag her down for the next 20-30 miles (hell it was on my way anyway)! Finally get sick of it and call 911. While they direct me to a state police headquarters, I continue to follow her. Here's the shocker. SHE pulls into the police station!

    The horseshit
Cop said since he wasn't there and it was a "no-collision accident" that he couldn't do anything. All I could do was file a report for insurance purposes, so I did that. I have liability only, so I'm wondering if I can go after her insurance for this. Anyone ever put in this position before?

If she has liability insurance ( required in FL to any driver ), then yeah, something can be done about it. If not, your loss. Then I don't know exatcly what you can do, other than try to revoke her license in court or something...

She pulled into a police station cause she was nervous and scared correct. Good luck on recouping damage costs. Will probably seem like squeezing a rock for blood.

That's what I assumed, but she had 2 teenagers with her in the car and she's the only one that went into the station. I was doing everything I could not to seem like some maniac trying to run her off the road, for fear she would throw that back at me.

I'm going to call my agent today and see what he thinks. I have the feeling I'm going to find out that laws anymore don't protect the innocent as much as they used to. I should have just let her hit me.

Oh how right you are. I see people make turns where it says don't they get smacked and the person that hits them gets nothing. Why in my state if you can avoid an accident and don't you are held liable for 50% of it then. Because some ASS can't read or write or understand the English language but yet thinks he has the "Right" to drive without a license.

Ok a bit of frustration.... Chill pill for Greg.

You think that's bad? My cousin got his Jag hit at a stoplight. A ford explorere was infront of him at the stoplight, and BACKED over him, and it was ruled it was the jag's fault for not backing up also... Ofcourse this was appealed and overturned.... but still, sheesh.

Just talked with my insurance company. If I had full coverage, they would obviously pay for it after deductable and go after them for the $$, but since I have liability, I'll have to do the legwork on filing a claim with the other company. They were very helpful at least, they told me what I needed to do and if they were giving me any sh*t to call them and they'd help out. Whoever's car and insurance she had, they must have had a bad record, we determined she has high-risk insurance and probably got it through an independent insurance company.

My next step is to find a phone number for her insurance company, determine if they have a current policy. If they do, then file a claim.

I'll keep this updated for those who may end up in a similar situation.

What kinda of BS is this  You pay them and they tell you to do their leg work. I would say see ya and get another insurance broker.

send your wheel off to get fixed. there is a company in LA that does it for $109 flat fee, no matter what the damage or the wheel. We use them atthe dealership. I wil try and get the name for you.

Yeah, get back to me on that name, it would probably be an easy fix, it's not broken or anything, they may not even have to weld in extra material.

EDIT: I wish I had more room in my fenders and 5 lugs, my wheels look insane on a widebody car...

Ryan, do you know if this wheel place will modify a wheel? I mean since my wheel is a forged dish and cast center that is welded to the dish, I wonder if it could be modified to a deeper offset.

One less 18inch wheel on a economy car in the world.

                              I feel no loss.
