Lol kind of what I was thinking.

If you use the adapters, and you have to find these hard to obtain high offset wheels, whats the point? Isnt the point of going to 5 lug, being able to find wheels easier, and a better selection? Kind of self defeating IMO. Unless you know of a set of wheels you can find.

You can find 5x130 porsche wheels in high offsets, and I happen to like a lot of them, but the new 911's use like 10 and 11" wide aftermarket rears and they're all like 2" staggers. And yeah if your 4x100 to 5x120 adapter was 35mm thick you'd likely be outside the fender with whatever cool e36 wheel you bolted up, but that's why god invented 5 lug swaps so we can run 5 bolt e36 wheels.

You pretty much nailed it on the head. Unless you find a set of wheels that you really, really are hell bent on having on your car, then there is no reason to do this.

It's already been stated, but I'll reiterate: there is no good reason to do this to get to 5x120. Any good wheel in that hub spacing will have an offset that will not work with the thickness of the adapters.

In the case of e30trash, he wanted to run D90's, and he did what was required to do it. I have absolutely no clue about the engineering that went in to the adapters that he had made, but I read that they are custom, so I will assume that the company he went through has gone through the proper engineering techniques to ensure they will withstand the stress/bending moments. And I will assume the bolts (or studs) are strong enough to withstand the shear. [Plus, they look sick, and he is probably the only person to run those wheels on an e30].

Plain and simple, if proper measures are taken (from the limited shit I know, e30trash did it the right way), then there is nothing wrong with running hub adapters. Just know that there aren't too many wheels with a high enough offset that will clear stock (non-flared) fenders with adapters.

Sorry if I rambled on, I am bored, it's kind of late, most of my friends are out on the town right now (I gave up alcohol, so I don't want to be surrounded by drunk people) and the girlie is "too tired".

Calling Art! I believe Art just had a set machined for his 325is...he's running a nice set of BBS wheels from a Porsche.

ummm, we have the same bolt pattern as the worlds most common and commonly modified vehicle. how can a 5 lug make life easier? level playing field.....maybe. easier.......no.

What, a fucking honda? Put some fucking ricer Honad wheels on your car then lol, I'll pass. Its difficult to find nice 4x100 wheels, for a good price. You can find some solid 5x120s that look nice on E30s. A 5 lug swap makes life easier because BMWs are 5x120 now, therefore easier to find wheels, since there are MORE out there. Im not sure if you can grasp that.... If 5x120 wheels werent easier to find, or had a better selection, people wouldnt do 5 lug swaps.

Ok then find you're nice set of 5x120 wheels that only cost you $500 then go ahead and do a 5-lug conversion and then report back to us what the total cost of running those "easy to find" 5x120 wheels is.

MANY wheels have an offset high enough to run adapters on. Take for instance Porsche wheels, they always run 40+mm offsets, so that's a perfect offset for running adapters. Also There are many sets of 5x114.3 that BBS makes in perfect offsets to run adapters. I personally know 5 people that are running wheels that looks sick as hell and they could not ever just "do a lug swap" to run them. 5x120 ISN'T the only other lug pattern in the world.

I dont recall anyone saying 5x120 is the only other lug pattern.... It is the current BMW lug pattern though. Not a lot of people like aftermarket wheels, believe it or not. But a nice OEM wheel, would look nice on an E30. Like the ones off the E38, not sure which style wheels those are, Style 42s, etc.

Go ahead and run some porsche wheels lol.

I know you didn't say that, but you made it seem like people ONLY want OEM BMW wheels or 5x120 wheels.

Because that's all you referred to. That's not the most commonly bolt patter that is adapted. To further open your mind to the possibility of greatness please visit www.cleaned.be
