The Smart Phone / PDA Thread

Somewhat related to the cell phone thread that's been a on-again/off-again discussion for a couple years, I wanted to start a thread specifically regarding smart phones & PDAs since in about a month or so my current cell phone contract expires and I plan on upgrading to one of these feature packed devices. The job I am doing now has me on the road daily and more than just basic phone capabilities are highly desired. E-mail, web browsing, GPS ready and Bluetooth are all on my "must have" list of features as well as having a full QWERTY keyboard. I know there are some smart/pda phones which are clam shell design or have a sliding display to reveal a keyboard. Personally, I'm not interested in those....I like the simple design and form factor of Palm, Blackberry and Samsung Blackjack. Nevertheless, please post about what you have (or plan to get)....regardless of brand or form factor and why you like it.

Some initial window shopping online has me interested in the following:

    Samsung Blackjack II
    Motorola Q series
    Blackberry 8800 series

I've been shopping. The blackjack II looks cool, but I don't think it really stands up to the Blackberry/HTC.

I'm holding out for a few more months to see what competitors to the iPhone come out.

I've read plenty about the iPhone - its definately cool. But not $399 cool.

As stated in the cell phone thread, I have a T-Mobile Shadow (a rebadged HTC Juno):

So far, I really like it. The keyboard is kind of an anomaly, in that it's a QWERTY keyboard, but most of the letters go 2 per key. So you still have to multi-tap to text or write emails, but it's actually really quick. It's also nice having Windows Mobile 6, instead of the hackjob little OS that the phone manufacturer uses. There are TONS of applications for it, and it also had Windows Mobile Media on board, which is also really cool.

I have the HP iPAQ 6945. I needed a new PDA and hated my phone. This is the best of both worlds, WM 5, GPS, GSM, WiFi, etc. I love it. A little more bulky than my PDA but I like having one thing to keep up with instead of two.

blackberry 8820 right now. i hate the RIM OS but i love the email functionality. my friend with verizon has the 8830 which is sweet cause it is dual mode cdma/gsm, so it's a world phone as well.

                      previously i owned:
                      nokia e90
                      htc tytnII
                      nokia n95
                      nokia e61i
                      SE k800i
                      se w800i
                      moto q
                      palm treo

out of all of them, my favorite was the nokia e61i. excellent keyboard, big screen, battery lasted forever, metal casing, quad band gsm w/ 3g so it worked when i travelled abroad, and s60 operating system. best business phone ever.

are you on a GSM network? tmobile and att are the only two i know (in this area)

if so check out gsmarena.com and browse through all the phone, they list many that you cant buy in a network's store (in this country, and some you cant find at all in this country) but they will work just fine. im partial to sony ericsson, they make a good phone.

Apple is finally realizing this, and making strides to bring it up to par in that aspect.

FWIW, I love my iphone. Maybe because I don't need it for business purposes, but it does everything I need it for wonderfully. It becomes 100% more useful when you jailbreak/unlock though. I love being able to run native third party applications on it.

Oh, and my only gripe is that it doesn't have GPS. I'd be surprised if the next version of the phone doesn't have it though.
