i've been playing drum kit longer than most of you have been
    alive...started playing back in '77...

i'm just outside of nashville and we have a really good variety
of musical opportunities here...i wisely opted long ago not to
    make a career of it...

i've got a 6 piece 2000 model Pearl Masters Custom kit in Sequoia
Red on an Icon rack with Sabians...in addition i have 2 vintage kits:
a '67 Ludwig 4 piece kit in champagne pink sparkle and a '70
Slingerland 5 piece kit in red sparkle...plus a full LP percussion rig...

my latest playing opportunity was occassionally sitting in with
a 9 piece horn band...we played all the disco and funk favorites
    of the 70s and 80s...crazy times...and the hardest $100 i've ever
earned...as the owner of a graphic design studio, i can simply power
up my G4 and make $100...

In chronological order of when i started learning (alot of em overlap)

(i'm gonna rate myself, but this is gonna be 1-10 of what i'm best at (ie, compared to how i play the guitar), again, this is not my level of expertice compared to other people... that's just not accurate & i don't have alot to measure myself against)

          1- Piano (5 years of instruction.... my mom's a piano teacher) - 3 (been a long time)
2- Baritone Horn (2-3 years instruction, classical) - 6 (also been a long time)
3- Valve Trombone (yes there is such a thing...6 months instruction, classical, a little jazz) - 4 (i could probably pick it back up pretty quick)
4- Bass (taught myself by ear, play everything from DMB to Rage Against the Machine, Chilli Peppers etc.) - 8
          5- Trombone (2-3 years instruction, classical & jazz) - 6
6- Acoustic guitar (taught myself by ear, learned a little bit of everything) - 10 (it's what i spend most of my time playing)

since i can play a valve instrument i could probably pick up the tuba, trumpet, etc pretty easily. i actually remember hitting higher notes on a trumpet than the lead trumpet player in my HS concert band ;)

And growing up w/ music constantly playing in my household helped my musical ear... i can memorize anything & learn songs by ear pretty easilly... but the technical side of the execution & improvisation is tougher for me

          i'll shut up meow

I hate it when people older than me say things like that.

It's like when older people come into the video store, and say, "you've probably never seen that movie, it was before your time..."

Been playin the drums for about two years now, I'd say I'm about 4 skill level. I'm in a rockish/skaish band with my neighborhood buddies. We've had gigs at an insane asylum never doing that again. We are currently finishing up our cd. my drum teacher's old band opened for nirvana way back when :D my friend has a Gretch five piece w/ sabians, and I have a POS Taye five piece w/ paiste's. He's rich, I ain't.

Played for 4 years, took the last year off. Still trying to work up the nerve to go at it again. I hate the fact that my drumset is in better shape and is worth more than my car.

Don't want to know what my "skill" level is now.

I am also suprised at how many members are musicians, and more specificially drummers.

which model Taye set do you have? Taye makes some nice kits they are definitely not a POS. Which Paistes are you running.

I have a Premier Cabria with Paiste & Sabian cymbals. I would like to upgrade to a custom maple set from a local shop whenever I get some mo money.
