    First Car

Posted this on bfc and didn't get any responses sooo heres the rundown. I'm gonna be 16 in less than 2 weeks, right now I have my dads old car, a 92 Audi 100 5 speed.

Anyways, I want a car that I paid for and completely own so I can appreciate it better. Also I plan on doing lots of HPDEs track days, auto x, driving school etc. The Audi wouldn't be terrible for that aside from the fact that it has brake and suspension issues and weighs sub 4000 lbs. But maybe it would be good to learn on a heavier car?

I want an e30 as its significantly lighter, is rwd, awesome looking and probably easier on gas than the audi.

So I was wondering what you guys thought, should I....

Drive the audi a few more years

Drop 200+ on the brake booster and save for a clean e30

Drive audi as is and save up (with an extra 200+ in the bank!)

btw the brake booster is not totally necessary, according to my dad it still works fine but when I brake the booster goes whhhhhhhhhhhhhoossssssssss and the braking has a shitty feel but still stops.

edit: anyone know if i would be able to track the car with the booster issue?

Ok screw it I'm gonna respond now .

So lets see ....you are only 15 years old presently ??
And you have al these visions of doing multiple track days , auto-x and driving schools ??

Who is going to be funding all of these mad tyte batshit insane fast type of activities ??

The fact that you have top ask if going to a track event with brakeing issues is unsafe speaks volumes as to your readiness to even attend these events .

Yes I'm 15, I have a couple grand saved up and plan to start working immediately once I get my license. This will fund all the parts, gas, insurance, tires, auto x, driving instruction and track days (which after just researching do cost a bit more than I expected.)

Aside from being fun, I think its a good idea for someone inexperienced like myself to have professional instruction and seat time to make me a better driver and also help take away the urge to do stupid shit on the street.

As for the braking issue, there is a VERY small leak in the booster I believe and atleast according to my dad it works fine, but you're right I should probably sort that out and get new shocks before tracking the car.

Pssh, at least he wasn't like most of us when we were fifteen. I applaud the fact that he at least wants to get out and attend some autocrosses and track events. When I was fifteen, I was conjuring up a way that I could afford an E38 750i to transplant a six-speed manual into, among other completely ridiculous pipe dreams that I had/still have. At least he has some idea of what kind of money he's got and what he wants to invest it into (by that I mean, he isn't looking into a Honda.) It could be worse, just browse R3V for 20 minutes.

In my opinion, I'd rock the 100CSQ until you have saved up around $3500-4500 to buy a decent, yet solid (non-rusty), E30 318is. I know of few better cars for the money for daily driving, track events, etc.

Right. The M42 is quite a bit more advanced than the M20, and by most accounts more fun. It's quite lightweight and is a bit more reliable than the 2.5 or 2.7 liter variations of the M20.

I've not owned one yet (although I thoroughly enjoyed the seat time I had in my brother's), but they seem like good, solid cars for the money. Just don't put an exhaust on them. :D

If the 200$ in cost for a brake booster scares you, stop right now. I just got 100$ of neoprene hose in the mail and am excited. Between camber plates and brake ducting, I got a 700$ worth of credit card debt in the mail today. If you're going to track your car in any capacity the couple grand you have saved up will disappear in a weekend.

the purpose of my post is simply to state that I make retarded amounts of money working at the Federal GVT.

if I spent every weekend auto-X'ing, doing lap days, and attending race school, in my modded to the tits E30, I would be broke-ass like a 15 year old tugging to pictures in my grade 9 year book.

a $200 "fix" on an' E30 is a song and dance.

if you're looking to infact upgrade the suspension in your E30, prepare for new subframe bushings aswell.

IMO, keep your Audi till you break it, or get super tired of it.

if you are like i was when i was 15 you will end up fucking off every chance you get if you have an e30... i bought my e30 off my parents when i was 14 and it was my first and favorite car, loved it constantly washed, waxed, vacuumed, ect and then in winter i fucked it up in the snow pretty bad...."aka totaled" scared me shit-less and i was afraid to drive for 3 months....i only recently purchased and redid one. if you are smart you should keep that audi for a while and drive that for 1-2 years get experience and learn how stupid drivers are....during that time by an e30 and do what you wanna do to it, just know RWD is no joke, my lil bro is in the same boat you are in, hes 16 and wants an e30 so bad, i want him to get one, but at the same time i dont want what happened to me to happen to him.... it sucks putting madd money and time into a car and you wreck it. once its totaled its totaled dude...

No, a $200 fix doesn't scare me, I understand that cars, especially german cars are expensive as hell. Actually its a $300 part at the dealer that I'm getting for 200 somewhere else.

pretty much the only reason I wouldn't fix it would be if I was getting an e30 soon.

AWD is not idiot proof either but I see where you're coming from

and I'm well aware how stupid/bad the majority of drivers are, I've had people pull in front of me w/o signaling and slow down, people run reds and almost hit me, people riding down the middle of 2 lanes talking on phones oblivous to the road.

don't even get me started on the drivers at my school. Its a free for all leaving that place with all the girls on phones, tokyo drifters and people gunning it in a crowded parking lot.
