    Anyone here do diff rebuilds?

Or know of where I could get a rebuild 3.73 LSD and send back my core for a reasonable price?

With the poly motor and tranny mounts, the diff whine is so loud now, it comes into the cabin and sounds like I have a supercharger on the car!

Are you looking for more locking %? If not, just get a used 3.73 from a junkyard if your diff whines or the clutches are toast.

I'll have to dig through my favs in backup, there is a company that does work on these to get more lock-up...but they aren't cheap...over 1k easy.

I am assuming this guy is trying to get an UBAR cheap diff rebuild. Otherwise, if it comes down to it, I'd spring for the OS Giken LSD for the medium case diff, which runs around $1400.

There is a difference between reasonable and being a cheap ass, which I'm not.

Just didn't know if anyone on here knew where I could get it done reasonably, that's all.

But, spending $1400 on the diff, then all the associated seals and bearings, so a ~$2k diff is big out of the budget, especially on a stock M20!!!!

                Metrix Motorsports in Ca........or Diffsonline....or MM......(metric mechanic)....all 800 and up....easy

...but as stated....find a good used one....mucho cheaper.

Are the diffs in our cars called small or med case/..or large case/......? I get confused?....

^I think med case for the M20, small case for M42.

                  But I'm not sure either.

Yep, diffs in the 325s are medium case, also called typ188 for the 188 mm ring gear inside. 318i/is have typ168. E36 has typ188 except for euro M3 which has a large case typ210 with a 210mm ring gear.

I asked about a diff rebuild kit about a year ago. I got none of the retard answers you got, but generally the same responses. Buy a hot rod diff or a used stock diff.

I just want a fresh stock diff, which seems to be what you want too.

If I hear anything I will keep you posted, the GF is working again, I might be able to afford some shiz for the car soon!

                        ^Much appreciated.

I'm just leary of buying a used diff sight unseen, but fuck, I bought my car that way so I don't why I'd worry about a diff!

from my experiance the diff's in our cars seem to hold up really well. I had a 220k 3.73lsd in my old 325is that still had some lock left in it and I picked up a used 140k 4.10lsd of the boards here and it still leaves two solid lines on a powerbrake. You should be fine buying used.

Also, what kind of fluid are you running in your diff? Redline 75-90 gear oil might make your noises go away.

I'd have to ask the PO, but I'm know he put redline in it, so I'm sure thats it. He had it changed right before I bought it, so the fluid has less than 2k miles on it.

It may quiet it down, but I doubt it will stop it from making the whole car vibrate through 2nd and 3rd gear.

in the meen time throw some equa-torque in it

this stuff is awesome. for the time it might eliminate whining then when you get the new one throw it in there
