Whats better/worth more?

98 M3 Stock(cosmos)

90 325is w/S52 and 5 lug(zinno)

Im wondering which one i should go with at this point. So a discussion on which car you would buy/rather have, and why would be great.
Obviously this is a E30 board and it will be biased. Which i dont mind. But im sure there will be good points on both fronts.

Well the E30 has the same power, in a lighter car. It also has 5 lug which is a plus. Looks wise it has to be E30. Not a huge fan of the color though but its still a nice looking car.

The E36 will be worth more but thats about it, big and heavy, but if you want to attract the attention of highschool kids, you got your car.

Not at the moment. Im not feeling the E36 scene at all. But i love the S52(obviously)

Ive actually seen E30 S52s go for more than clean E36 M3s.
Or maybe thats just me.....

Stock '98 M3 Pros & Cons (based on my brother's ownership of a '98 M3 coupe for 4 years)

The good: Longer wheelbase (smoother ride), more aerodynamic (quieter), more sophisticated multilink rear suspension, various improvements which are typical of a newer car and massive aftermarket tuning potential if you have plans to make some changes. Since this one is stock, chances are it hasn't been thrashed much.

The bad: Its heavier (3200+lbs for the steeltop), known issues with interior panel fitments (although I've heard the last couple years of the E36 are better), plastic impeller on the H2O pump which has a documented history of becoming a overheating nightmare (can be updated to a metal one) and since BMW made lots of these cars, they don't hold their value as good as a E30 M3. Although this depreciation can be seen as a good thing too since it makes it more affordable.

The good: Classic BMW 'boxy' shape with trademark 4 round headlights, lighter, more nimble, semi-trailing arm rear suspension makes for more lively handling at the limit, S52 motor converted to OBDI = ~275bhp in a sub-2800lbs. car, whether the brakes are sourced from a E30 M3 or E36 its much better than stock and since good E30s are becoming harder to find, this makes this particular vehicle more unique not to mention a lot more fun to drive.

The bad: If you don't know the person who did the work or there's no documentation to back it up, you might be walking into someone's project that was hastily slapped together (so ask lots of questions!). Seeing its 18 years old now and depending on where it spent most of its life, be sure there's no issues with rust.

Conclusion

If it were my money on the line for this decision, I'd go for the E30 if everything checked out good. The E36 M3 is a good car as well and thanks to its depreciation, a good example can be had for a reasonable amount of money. Definately a performance bargain.

Thanks for your input. Most of the points you made are def what ive been thinking over the past week or two.
Esp since i just drove the dragon in my nearly stock E30....
