If you don't change your oil, you're a bigger pansy than that guy who ordered the 7kRPM rev limiter on his M42 chip. :)

Not everyone has access to change oil at their place of residence. At one point one of my e30s had a stripped oil plug. I had a shop re-drill it (or whatever) and had them do it regularly. I didn't want to have to deal with a stripped drain plug once again. I change my own oil now but used to pay to get it done...I still take my Max to the dealer to change the oil...it's really cheap too.
To me changing oil is not a big deal....I'd pay to have it done for convenience sake. Now suspension mods, short shifter installs, brake jobs etc...that's where the fun is at
PS: Gotta love the drop in oil filter on the m42 8)
I used to have a friend who worked at jiffy lube and his "oil changes" consisted of cleaning off the old filter and putting in new oil. Shady stuff. Needless to say i change my own oil.
I have been doing my own oil changes and by no means, is it cheaper doing it yourself. I put Mobil1 Full Synthetic in my car. It costs around $29 for a case (6) and $10 for the Mobil1 oil filter.
It costs me $39 everytime I change my oil, plus I'm doing it myself which can be looked at in a good way (no one is fucking up my car), or a bad way (I have to spend the time buying the stuff, then actually doing the oil change).
If I could find someone around me who will do an oil change using Mobil1 Full Synthetic, I'd take it there.

my car eats through mobil 1 like i eat macaroni and cheese.
You're wasting your money putting synthetic in that thing.

It "eats" through it because you are most likely losing it through the seals. Synthetic oil is much finer and will find its way through old seals. You need to replace the seals, then you should be able to use it without a problem.

That thing? I would much rather put a higher quailty product in my car that will make the biggest difference in the cars condition. Search around, the oil you put in your car makes a HUGE difference in the cars life and overall shape.

True. I can change my oil and only some minor work on my car at my apartment in the garaged carport. Anything bigger and I have to drive back 3 1/2 hours to my parents' house.
But for the record, my car had it's oil changed by the same dealership until I started doing it at about 225,000 miles.
