Green coolant vs. Blue BMW coolant

Is there any major difference? Some say that the Blue coolant resists calcification that can clog up passages.

Is this just marketing on BMW's part to sell the Blue coolant at a higher cost?

I plan on doing my T-Belt soon and was wondering if I should use the more expensive Blue coolant.

I'm sure someone will disagree, but my buddy who is a BMW tech said that in the 80's it did make a difference, but modern green coolent is fine. I have run regular coolent in all but one of my E30s with no problems what-so-ever.

Just as long as it is phosphate and nitrate free you will be fine.

I actually dont use BMW coolant because it precipitates so much silica (that whitish shit that drops out of suspension and builds up all over hell)

G05 instead of green usually. But blue is usually pretty cheap anyhow, what, $15 a gallon?

              Oh, this is important.

I can't remember the specific make up of it but the red stuff "Dex Cool??" is NOT okay.

depends on what dealership you go to. I paid 20 because I'm stupid and just wanted to get the car back together.

Regular ass coolant: Inorganic Acid Technology (IAT)
Glysantin-based additive package (BMW, Saab, Mopar, Mercedes, others): Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT)
Dex Cool (GM): Organic Acid Technology (OAT)

G05 = HOAT. It works, but just shell out the money for the blue stuff. When you go to the dealership, tell them they always "list" parts out for you.

I am not a fan of the red coolant. Nor the pink coolant. Very acidic, eats seals and usually causes leaks. Green is tried and true. :)

I like to see gen-eu-wine BMW coolant stocked in my garage.
