Very impressive my congrats!!!
I had 400k km (not miles) in my 316 carburated M10 w/o rebuild.
I think the reason M20s are more durable is because the are simpler than M/S5X.
But if your M20 lasted that long i would suggest that you buy another E30 and put the M50 in there.
Keep your current 500k car stock until it blows!
EDIT>>>added>>>
But WTF is NOT wrong with your odo? I had 2 SI boards burnt and then the odo finally stopped at 321k kms.Originally posted by scabzzzzPlastic bumpers eat a chrome dick!

How many 300k+ m50/s50s are there, really? I think I've heard of one or two. I know the m50s haven't been around as long, so haven't gotten a chance to run as many miles as the m20s, but I still don't think they will be as ubiquitous as uber-mileage e30s, even if you adjust for the age difference. 300k+ m20s are a dime a dozen. 500k+ m20s are a little more rare, but still believable. Show me a 500k+ m50 in a few years and I will admit defeat.

My e36 M52 has 185k on it, no smoking on heavy throttle at all. As long as they're taken care of reasonably well there's no reason the DOHC motors shouldn't last as long as the M20. The reality is that the cars have been out far less time so it's not as common to have accumulated that kind of mileage.sigpicFormer professional wrench thrower.

For you guys that hate on the price of the odo gear prices: that dude makes those things out of his house. As far as I know, he is the only guy who is willing to even make them. We work with him through my work and he's a pretty cool guy, so I had no problem paying the 100 for the gears. My 2.9L Build!

My dad has had to replace at least a dozen M50 cylinder heads this year. All between 210-260k miles. The blocks should make the long hall but you'd have to do preemptive head gasket replacements every couple hundred thousand miles. And the fact that the M50 and S50's are newer engines don't cut it for not seeing uber mileage. I've read about several 95-97 accords with a million miles.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I have a customer who is in outside sales.
He racked up 500K on a 88 325is, then sold it to his brother.
His brother sent him a pic of the odometer at 650k.
This guy is now driving a 95 325is, I think he has about 350k on it now. He also has a 91 318is that he only drives on weekends.
If you take care of these cars they will go a long way.
