I've seen some 88s with plastic bumpers, but most of them are still diving boards.

correction. the front part is a bolt on. that includes the valence and the bumper.

the rear bumper requires some trimming, which is all carefully explained in one of the tech articles in this website.

When saying you have seen 88's with plastic bumpers, you mean they've been swapped, right? Because none of the 88's came with them stock.

Wrong - late model 88 did come with plastic bumpers stock.

If it was manufactured in 88, then it would be an 89 model.

All of the 88s in the US (which would be manufactured in 87) came with the metal bumpers.

                              Ken is correct.

My car is an 88 and it has metal bumpers. These are different than normal diving boards. They are actually a bit shorter (not that it matters ;)) and they can be replaced VERY easily with plastic bumpers - it's just a matter of bolting them in.
