...like I did. The M20 still ran super clean on the emissions test though, not bad for a 19 year old vehicle :D.

In my part of town, most of the emissions inspectors wouldn't know euro trim if they saw it.

Emissions inspectors don't check your car for federalization requirements or DOT standards.

      They check your emissions.

I don't take Euro anything off my 745i for emissions testing. The car was barely federalized when it came over, still has the original non-cat exhaust (the resonator conveniently looks like a cat though :D) and no oxygen sensor. Passes fine, and the only trouble I ever had at testing was the first time I brought it in when they didn't have the model "745i" in their database.

            different states have different inspections...
WA only has emissions(and thats only on the west side of the mountains,) other states have actual ispections of the car, not just how much its "hurting" the enviroment.

Out the door? You mean you have to leave the house?

I get a notice in the mail that my tags are going to expire, go online and renew them, pay online and get them in about a week. The only place I have to go is outside to put the stickers on the plate. :)

In NC - you have registration (which is handled in the mail) and inspection (which is handled in shops). Neither my E30 or M635 are required to be emissions tested, though they do inspect tread depth, turn signals, etc.

When I brought the M635 to NC, they required me to present the car at special NC DOT inspection station. I was a little freaked out, so I brought all the federalization papers, etc. Mainly they went over every panel of the car, underneath, under the hood, etc. checking for VIN's. Apparently the non-US VIN tipped some alarm somewhere. I got lots of compliments from the two inspectors on the car! Not a single mention of EPA or DOT federalization.
