    Ride height regulations

    I have been searching for a while now and I can't seem to find any definitive references for states and their limits on ride heights.

    Does anyone have a useful link to help me out? I used Google to find MD's law and this was the closest I found:

    22-105. Alterations reducing effectiveness of bumpers.

    (b) Alterations prohibiting operation of vehicle.- A person may not operate a vehicle on any highway in the State if, as a result of post-manufacture alterations, the height of the vehicle's frame side rails or either of the vehicle's bumpers exceeds:

    (1) In the case of a Class A (passenger) vehicle, 20 inches;
    Frame side rails are located where exactly? The only reason I'm wondering is because Geico called and asked me specifically how low the car was. They know its lowered because I mention it when I need their towing service.
    Reminiscing...

    I think that is referring to lifted trucks. The only thing i have heard of for lowered cars is the height of headlights from the ground, but i don't know what state that was and what the requirement was.

      IIRC you can't go above or below a certain number of inches from what the factory bumper height was. But i don't know what that # is.

      Although now that they know your car has been modified, just hope they don't try to up your insurance or drop you.

        Ride height can be whatever, as long as the headlights are the right height, unless of course you're in Cali, which you aren't.

        Like JasonC said, really the only risk is the insurance company dropping you or raising your rates for modifying it/without telling them

                  Geico=FAIL

                  That's retarded if they drop you or they raise your rate. Mercury knows everything about my car and they still cut me a deal. Apparently, I drive 5000 miles a year. HA. What's cool is that they are the ones that suggested I do it to save some money.

                  If they drop you fuck them. If they raise your rates, drop them!

                    From what I've heard Cali laws = getting bent over your hood and raped and being forced to pay for it. There is a video on it somewhere on the web. The guys lights werent high enough from the ground or at the right height for viewing, some blah blah shit about stuff under his hood.

                    Im glad that I dont have that shit in CT!

                      Just tell them your muffler hits cause your car is old and the springs are weak. They don't need the whole story.

                        Might as well be...If you have modified suspension, they can crush your car. How could you have not heard about that living in Cali??

                        EDIT: I might be mixing up stories, I don't know if they can crush it for that(street racing they can), but you can't modify the suspension either way.

                        I'm sure its illegal in the same way aftermarket exhausts are illegal here, no one does anything about it.

                        Here's exhaust/intake and tint
                        California agency issued $4.4 million in local grants for a modified car ticketing campaign that generates more than $10 million in revenue for the state.

                          i've heard that where i live (rhode island) you can't move a bumper more than 4 inches up or down from stock... but then you see guys in monster trucks with 35's and huge suspension kits and body lifts that put the bumper at shoulder level.... sooooo ... ignore it? (probably just ri... our gov't is a little messed up)

                            I was under the impression that they were crushing cars that had stolen parts on the car...?

                              California has so many laws that I don't know anymore...I know
                              -no stolen parts(duh, lol)
                              -no racing(duh again)
                              -no modifying with the intention of racing

                              The punishments I apparently am mixing up a lot
