Jordan do yourself a favor and wait a few months til intel comes out with there new socket 775 and it becomes affordable. If you buy this machine now it will be obsolite in a month. New industry standards are comming out. New socket (775), new ram (DDR2), new bus (PCI-express).

You sound like a prime candidate for water cooling.
Yeah, if you're willing to lash out on all that top of the line gear, may as well add a watercooling kit to the list. Makes a for fun little project too.

My machine is watercooled and it is insanely quiet - all you can hear is a slight rushing of air cos the radiator is mounted externally.

No matter when you buy it, a few months later there will always be something bigger and better. Sonner or later you just gotta buy one, and it sounds like your ready to buy. I'd say go buy it. If you buy a nice system (withch you are) then it's gonna last you a long time anyways.

I'm runnning and MSI KT4 Ultra Board and LOVE it. I'm also running a G-Force 4 MX that isn't too bad. For your perposes though, I don't think it would be too great of a choice. Just my 2 cents.

While this is generally true there are definitely times when a new standard is acheived, or new-ish technology comes out, like PCI-express. However this doesn't solve the problem of when-to-buy, as new technology is usually the most expensive when it is introduced.

                      Hmmm. Hope that helps?

I'm running a 2.8ghz P4 right now and it will play anything that's on the market right now. I'm hoping I'll be alright in graphics card territory for Doom 3 and HL 2...

Ever run Far Cry on your rig? 4 install CD's and one play CD is quite an overload for a PC....but I played it, and loved it.

I haven't upgraded in 3 years.. I have a dual P3 1.2ghz with a Voodoo5 (haha) and a P3 tualatin 1.2ghz with a 9600pro.. since I mostly use my dually for the internet and design work, it's not too bad (and I've used many P4 systems that were sloooow compared to my SMP setup). the other computer I'm tweaking to play some of the newer games on, but I have no plans on upgrading for at least another year.
