    My new gaming/college kumputar

Jordan's post got my curious to see other's opinions on the computer i just built/ordered.

Rosewill ATX Case with 400W Power Supply and Side Window NEC 8X Black DVD+RW/-RW Drive, Model ND-2500A
SAMSUNG 80GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive
    Crucial 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 8T (2 sticks)
ABIT "AV8" K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 939 CPU
    AMD Socket 939 Athlon 64 3500+, 2.2 GHz, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor
MSI nVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, DVI/VIVO, 8X AGP
and a sound blaster Audigy video card.

the 2.4ghz amd processors are just stupid expensive, the one i got was 500 bucks alone...but apparently the new socket 939 is suppose to kick some ass.

i also plan on getting a flat screen CRT monitor

    i pray this will play Doom 3 ; )

not bad, it will play DOOM 3. I've never been a big fan of AMD though. My friend build a 64bit 2Ghz machine and i'm not impressed with it at all.

Again another plug for my comp: http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/vie...light=computer

not too bad, I would of gotten a faster HD, more ram, and ditched that last gen nvidia card for a ATI X800 or 9800XT

is it cheaper to have one built, or just buy one from a normal company. there are some small computer shops around here that im tempted to look into.

it's cheaper to build it yourself. it's not rocket science, it's like playing with legos.

My comp right now has an AMD, and I HATE IT.

I've fallen victim to AMD's little hiccup of locking up the system at random.

Josh if only this was your problem:

sounds like it's the inside that is causing you headaches

you are going to have to sell it for less, but anyways weston and i guess everyone else i have had an amd for a long time, that was a sweet computer, eta fro has it now but he knows it a sweet deal because amd is cheaper....but weston rob says 800ish range and rob may be interested.

Is your CPU cooled properly and sufficiently?
