It's a miracle my car made it this long...

Yesterday Jordan and I did some work on my car.

    Here's what we found:

Things that have never been replaced:
    Cap
    Rotor
    Spark plugs
    Wires
    Water Pump
    Possibly timing belt

My car is a 1990 is and has 140k on it. The plugs had alot of the ceramic blown off and the Cap and rotor were in awful shape. I don't imagine the valves have ever been adjusted - they were at something like .16. The timing belt wasn't on the verge of breaking but it needed replacement. Needless to say, the car runs MUCH better now and according to the OBC I'm getting about a 8 mpg gain on the highway. It's always proved to be accurate so I believe it. We also pressure washed the engine bay and painted the valve over. It's a whole new animal now.

Are you pissed because his tune up is more effective than your Krylon "rebuilds"?

And Turf, how do you know those things weren't replaced?

timing belts snap around 60k, so it has been replaced at least twice.

The stamps on the waterpump was 88. The stamp on the cap and rotor was 1989. The plugs were on horrible condition and were oe - with BMW stamps on them. The only reason I wondered about the timing belt is because the water pump was in such poor condition - in addition to the condition of the gasket.

First off - don't lie to our faces. You're not a respectable human being. Feel free to talk shit about my thread all you want. If there's something wrong with me doing a proper tune up please let me know.

I'm assuming it offends you that I didn't just rattle bomb my old water pump?

Nice job! Regular maintenance goes a long way. It could be considered one of the best "mods" that you can do to a recently acquired e30. I guess after so many years of ownership, the POs just don't care to spend the money on the regular maintenance on a car with such age/mileage. Especially considering what the dealer would charge to perform such jobs.

But glad you got that basic shit taken care of. I would only hope it feels like a "new animal" after seeing the stamped dates on those old parts.

                    Idiots...

Anyway, tune up are fun. It's like a whole new motor, for a fraction of the price. Pick up a can of seafoam if you can find it. You'll love it.

isnt it bad to use seafoam after changing spark plugs and oil? since both of those are recommended to be changed after the procedure?

Agree on the idiots and the SeaFoam comment. You can find it at any Wal-Mart.

I'll probably do that before my next oil change. I've only had the car for maybe half a year? Anyways, I have all kinds of stuff on the way for it. the suspension is done - but I may do coil overs. I need to tuck in the rest of my sound system install and install my euro trim then I'll post pics. I can't wait for my city lights to work!

Sounds good. I did the same thing. Ordered everything all at once and did it all at the same time. It was like driving a different car...

GO with coilovers.. Sell your springs, keep your shocks/struts. Buy just the GC eibach and spindle for 389 or whatever in GB. Throw em on. Use stock strut hats in the front. Upgrade the rears anyways. You'll be impressed.
