I was going to look @ an early '90's 240sx and saw my 325is sitting on ramps @ a car dealer. The way the light hit it, it looked likea beam of light from heaven;). When I pulled in my driveway my mom said "that looks like my '81 accord". My dad also drove a '78 320i when I was little, so maybe there was a round headlight path that I had to follow. I've had it close to 8 years and I still love it!

Never made it to look @ the 240....

      in 1988 I was in Jr. High and saw a red e30 M3 drive by my school...that day I knew I wanted one. In 92 I bought my first e30 89 325i and then 96 bought a 88 M3 (still own).

Edit - I was into E28s before E30s, but what got me into that was my buddy in high school had (actually still has) a 1984 Hartge H5S.
I was an E28 fan before an E30 fan. My dad had an '88 535i. Manual with a LSD. Shwartz on tan. I loved that car, but he sold it.

I thus read his Roundel copies, saw an article on some suspension mods vs. track time on an E30, and it got me interested. I wanted either a 240sx or an E30. Thank god I picked the E30!

            I just picked both =P

I wanted something cheap and RWD, first car was a 92 240sx coupe, automatic. I had to share it with my twin sister. I gave up on that quickly and went searching for my own car. Either a 944, e30, or 240. 944 was too expensive to insure.

Then I met a girl with a caged e30.... that was that.

A couple years later i got the 240sx back from my sister and 5spd swapped it.

I wanted a 6 cylinder RWD coupe. Sporty, yet practical. Comfy but quick, a car that can be driven briskly while maintaining a civil feel for long distance drives.

A buddy/co-worker of mine (Saanen Wilcox...where are you, man?) had another buddy who needed a car that ran, but had a black '87 325is in really shabby condition. We (Saanen and I) built him a '84 318i and traded him that for his '87, which I bought and started working on...

It got obsessive, real quick like.

Joined R3V, met Jordo, Criv, and then the organised the famous "Abercrombie and Fitch" run...

This cemented a passion for these obsolete shit box cars, and a desperate attempt to help (and by "help" I mean correct)the idiots who own them.

i had gone through 3 240sx's and was ready for a change so i did research based on criteria: less than $5k, RWD, 6cyl, and under 3000lb.

i could either get a z32 300zx or an ma70 supra and strip the living shit out of them, or an e30; so i wound up in an '89 325is.
                  past:
                  1989 325is (learner shitbox)

                  1991 318ic (5-lug ITB)
                  1985 323i baur
                  current:

My dad bought my e30 off the lot in 87, it was the first car I ever worked on and have worked on it my entire life. When I was 15 my dad offered to buy me a new car (like a civic) or I could have the e30!

Dad bought another one when I turned 13, was an 87 325ic red w/ black interior. Grew up riding in that car and learned to drive a stick in it. After toying with hotrods, I decided I wanted a good daily driver for college so I found an e30.

Smart young man, and awewsome Dad...

Im older than most of you. My first car I purchased after "making it" in my career was a 85 eta. Ive had at least one e30 for most of the subseqent years, along with other vehicles. Had a F-150 for over 15 years along with my original 85e, a 87iS one of the first ones imported, 12/86 build date. Ive had a 320i, and a 323i both e21s, a 89 325i, a 91 318iS sunroof delete option, AW awesome car. Also along the way Ive had a couple of e36s and a e36M3. Currently driving 2002 330i sedan, 90 325i, 87 325iS and looking for a M3 or nice M50swapped iS.

Why have I driven a Bimmer for all this time. Same reason you all are in love with them now. I knew they would be timeless, and they are. Sure others are faster, and maybe prettier and much better DDs out there but I aint really feeling all the Honda love. My son has a Honda. POS. LOL

                              The Ultimat3 DrivR Machine

:woowoo:........... You can work on them, if you invest tools, time and money

they look special... not pretty, or eve sporty by todays standards, but they will always look special, different, eurowhatever... they look cool. Then and now and always will. I hate the new 3 series and will NOT drive a e9x. Well..I guess I would if it was a great deal.

We know why we bought a e30. Dont we????

I'm not into the 240sx scene, with all the neon colors, JDM love, and drifting. Not that that can't be fun, but I enjoy the generally older, more conservative BMW crowd.
