my first two years at school, we weren't allowed to have a car so my friend, who had an 89 alpineweiss coupe, black leather and stickshift, would come pick me up on the weekends to go rock climbing a few times. I loved it. So, at the end of the year I started looking and found an 88 vert, bright red, black leather interior, with a rebuilt engine. I bought it and beat the piss out of it for 2 years. (The engine's again toast, and the shell is being bought right now.)

While I had the vert, I joined this forum and heard about M3's... and started searching, and found one 5 miles from my parent's house. I sent my dad the link, and asked him to go check it out. he bought it and didn't tell me until I asked for advice on tires/wheels for the vert... and he decided he should tell me before I spent too much money on the vert. So, I now own (and am making the payments on) an 89 zinno M3, tan interior that's been redone, fresh paint, and when I bought it, it had clocked 97,xxx miles. I passed 100,000 somewhere east of Houston (sniff sniff) and am daily-driving it for th next month until I buy a pickup to move to Texas with.

When I was looking for a used car in the early '90s, the E30 was among a short list of cars that fit my automotive criteria: European compact/subcompact, two doors with seating for at least four, fairly powerful engine, rear wheel drive, independent suspension, four-wheel disk brakes, nice looking and relatively easy to work on. The other two cars on the list were the E24 6 series (more money than I wanted to spend for one in nice shape) and the Alfa Romeo GTV6 (sexy as hell but hard to find in any condition on Oahu and rife with reliability issues). Once I did the math, it was a no-brainer.

My dad bought a mint e34 M5. That got me started on older BMWs, so I did about 6 months of research before deciding that the e30 was cheaper and easier to work on than the e28, e24, and e34. My criteria was cheap, stick, small, rwd, and reasonable on fuel. The only other real option was a 944, but all of the cheaper ones are completely destroyed.

my friend/boss had one that i wound up driving for a summer because he bought a condo, only had one garage slot, and couldn't have it there. fell in love with the car. Wound up nagging him for two years until he caved and i bought it from him. The love story continues, my e30 and i are very happy together.

I wanted a cheap RWD car to play with after I sold my 240sx. I found a 86 325e for 400 bucks it came with 10 bottlecaps. Same day i bought it I blew the motor shifting from 4th back to third. Car sat for a month sold the bottlecaps for 300 bucks and junked the car for 200. Then I bought a 240sx and traded it for my current E30.

My first car was a 85 325e auto, my dad bought it for my mom as a daily and she didnt like it so I took over on it. I ended up r3v'ing it twice before selling it for more than my dad paid for it.

After that I really wanted a late 80's porsche carrera targa. While looking for one I stumbled upon my 90 325i for $600. I decided that that would hold me over until i could find a porsche. I got into modding the e30 and fell in love with it. Now people ask me why my e30 is even driven on the street from all of the go-fast mods.

My uncle had a e28 that I remember driving around in when I was younger and it was a cool car. (1986 535i that had 500,000 miles on it by the time he sold it!) My first car was a chevy lumina that was incredibly boring to drive and was more of a grandma's car than my grandmas car. Sold that and bought the E30 that I have now. Picked an E30 over the others because of it's character and how fun it is to drive. Straight 6 power/cool sound, 5-speed, independent rwd with lsd, and relatively easy to work on. Since buying it I've even convinced a friend to buy an E36:roll: over the muscle cars he was considering buying. There really is nothing quite like the E30 out of all the other options out there.
