Question: Will this break? (Ireland Engineering content)

    #2
nope, got exact same bars for 3.5 years now. Although this weld does look funny, as if it wasn't properly matched to surface and just randomly spot welded with lots of feeler. I'll have to clime under tomorrow and see what mine looks like.

I would like to know if any one else has had this issue. (its rusty because its been like that for about a month... i havent had the time to remove the bar)

They were nice enough to offer me a new one... the weld quality definetly isnt up to par. What does your sway bar welds look like?

Take this as a word of caution. It wasnt a violent release but i did feel it in the turn. (depends on your setup)

I have had those bars on my daily for 2 years of my ownership and a year of the PO and about 25k miles of use with some track and auto-x time on them as well. I definitely have completely stopped supporting IE after many bad experiences with them.

Wow! Zero penetration on the tab. That is almost hard to do.

this will complete a 100% product dissapointment rating. Everything ive gotten from them, ive had a problem with. They have the right idea and the means to produce mad products, but the build quality sucks donkey nuts, fuck. (just had to throw that last curse in there)

un-certified welders! there is poor fit on the tab to begin with. it should at least sort of conform to the shape of the piece it is being welded to (the sway bay) not just using the weld to bridge the gap.

                they are spring steel correct?
spring steel becomes brittle when you weld to it. (it is the parent metal here). so even if you have a good weld there is a chance of the parent metal tearing away beyond the weld because it was overheated. you can weld to spring steel, you just need to try to limit the heat you put into it.

The bracket for the old design swaybars actually extended over the end of the bar. Needless to say that snapped within a few weeks. They sent me another bar like you have pictured and I have'nt had any problem with that one.

                      Paranoid is a good thing...

I was also in to the air racing scene before my first kid was born (I stoped flying...had more than my fair share of dead pilot friends).

I was hired as the crew chief for International Rockwell's P51 Pylon racer in the late 80's and the owner told me it was because I was the most paranoid mechanic he knew

I hear a lot of people complaining, and personally, a person who hasn't had a bad experience with IE yet, I also would like to point out that IE is by far cheaper than almost every other place. So when you cheap, you get what you pay for.

I got most of urethane stuff from them, and shock mounts have been nothing less than amazing. I never bought anything else from them, other than suspension bushings and sway bars, though.

All of the IE, CARR (the list goes on) is the same stuff, and the reality is you can get it cheaper than that.

And so true... Cheap is cheap and you only get what you pay for...If you're lucky.

                              WOW WOW WOW

Carr doesn't sell IE stuff anymore. They did for a short time when they first tried getting into performance scene, but for quiet some time now they've been selling quality stuff. I mean I happened to be 4 blocks away from them.
