Anybody familiar w/ 90s Honda Accords?

I was changing the plugs on a friend's '94 Honda Accord beater and the spark plug holes had a lot of dirty oil. The top half of the plugs were covered in it. The actual spark area of the plug looked normal, so it doesn't appear that the oil was getting into the cylinders.

Engine looked kind of like this:

    (except not vtec)
You can see the valve cover has recessed holes on top for the spark plugs and spark plug wire connections.

Being an m20 guy, I have no idea how oil could get into those spark plug holes. Anybody more familiar with these have any ideas?

    ex-asian import shop Service Manager.

You need to go order a full Valve Cover Gasket Set w/ Spark Plug Tube Seals, And preferable is replacement grommet/washers. Don't get a cheap FelPro or other aftermarket gasket set, as they all leak premature. Pull it off, clean the grooves the gasket and seals seat into on the VC and reverse the removal. You'll be good as gold.

Hmmm... they might have rubber gaskets for those holes, usually changed while doing the valve cover gasket...

Yeah, go ask some other forum after the answer and p/n's were supplied for the repair.

BTW, Change the plugs and Ignition Wires while your in there as the oil will swell out the boots and cause a misfire sometime down the line, if not already.

i just did the valve cover gasket on my buddys 91 accord like 3 weeks ago, you need to replace the valve cover o-rings that go in the sparkplug holes in the valve cover, it will solve the problem.

It coud be the o-rings at the bottom of the spark plug tubes that insert via the rocker shafts, But it's not. Those only go when you toast the head. Like I said, just pick up that list above, It's like $35.90 for the A-S branded packed set.
