    Cold air intakes

I am thinking of buying a BMP cold air intake. I am interested in opinions on the BMP product and suggestions for other makes. I searched around a bit and there is not much out there......

umm i would go with Signature Motoring. They have a nice custom fit heat shield. All you need to do is buy a filter.

I looked at a BMC CDA carbon fiber "cold air" intake, looked nice and the filter was totally enclosed, and it was carbon fiber which is always nice for the bling factor.

If you wanted to pull out a high beam and run some ducting to the hole you'd have a cold/ram air intake.

There's no such thing as a COLD AIR INTAKE. Maybe ambient air intake..........

Exactly-and it's a waste of money on an E30. The factory airbox is going to give you the 'coldest' amount of air into your engine. Regardless, the factory airbox isn't the restriction in the air intake path, its the AFM.

I won't even get into the fact that most of these cone filters let in larger particles of dirt into your engine than the factory filter, possibly causing more engine wear...

If you want the intake sound that a cone filter can give you, just drill some large holes in the bottom of the factory airbox. Friend of mine did this to my previous 325is after he bought it from me, and I will admit it sounded mean as hell.

                  Eric,

How big of holes did he drill? And how many?

I don't recall-probably 1/2" holes or so. Swiss cheese the hell out of it to your hearts content.

And this will not affect the air cleaners efficiency?

We are autocrossing the car and I have to admit <as cheesy as it sounds.... I wanted more noise>

i dont understand the drilling, just use a dremel cutoff wheel and cut a bigass hole in the side

I cut a big ass hole in my airbox on a Civic back in '98 to get that sound. Everyone thought it had "intake" on it's mod list. Oh the days of High School.

I would like to make an intake "similar" but not the same as the Dinan Cf e36unit for my e30. (Hope I don't get sued for that idea either)

I put as many 3/4 inch holes i could facing the driver side quarter panel. It sounds so beafy after 3700 rpm.
