Na, Put some gum on it and it'll be just fine....

So I pulled the motor from the cabbie I got for $700. And well somehow this guy managed to throw a rod, On an autotragic. I dont want to know what the fuck he did. Here are the pics as it was hanging in the engine bay.

    And the other side....

Look at me I am finally cool!..... Oh wait no I'm not.

First M20 I have pulled. Was really easy after searching around here. Got it out in about 3 hours by myself, And I took off more than I needed to, Now I know though.

Now I have to pull the other one and clean it up/replace some stuff then slap it back together.

Props to the previous owner on that nice clean break in the block. Almost looks like it was cut. I'm not sure how he could do that with a slushbox...perhaps a black market chip with no rev limit set?

Right now just gonna do maintenance on the M20 and get it going strong so I can DD it. I have been in a 84 Chevy C-10 since my IS got R3V'd, And I am fucking sick of it!

In the long term... Well let's say I will be doing some things to it. First thing is to get it back to almost stock and to do all the little things.

I am also gathering my 5-speed swap stuff right now. At a grand total of $200 so far! I don't need much more either...

That's the exact same spot that the original motor from my car threw a rod. Even had the hole on the other side, same as yours. #6 let go. I'm wondering if that is a common failure point for the M20 rods or something. I've seen a few others throw rods in the same place, not sure if it's just my experience or not.

never seen an m20 with a whole in the block

had a cracked block, when i left water in my cooling system over the winter. 3 freeze plugs made their way out, the other got stuck and cracked the block.

It was an older fellow that I got the car from, He didn't seem to be the type to drive like a crazy ass.

I really didn't think it was gonna be this bad. The way he explained it, It sounded like a thrown T-Belt not this... lol.

Good thing I already have another strong M20. And honestly I knew it was bad when I was under the car unbolting the tranny and I saw some metal hanging out the bottom of the little plastic grate on the bottom of the tranny. Pulled it off and a giant pile of metal fell on my chest, I then started to laugh hysterically as I was tired.

Haha, I actually started with some on. But they kept tearing so 10 sets later I abandoned them... Also the motor was filthy cause of the holes in the block, So that didn't help. Thank god for a scrub brush and Gojo, My hands and arms look like a human being again!

I bet you know this - but the purple Nitrol (spelling?) you can get at the autoparts store work great.

I will pick some of those ones up tomorrow and see how they fare. Thanks for the tip. I used shitty pharmacy ones my chick had left over from dying her hair a while back.

Oh yea, those are shit. Look for the purple ones. It's like $20 for a box of 1000. It's what all professional mechanics use every day.

Mechanics gloves are great when you are wrenching in close to other parts, and want to avoid loosing too much skin. They sell them at most auto parts store and hardware stores.

Listen to George Graves, get some gloves.

Aside from losing skin and nasty looking nails the shit that gets on your hands is not good for you.

I started in this business a million and two years ago BG (before Gloves)
and I have multiple health issues (neuropathy and joint problems) that can attributed the shit I soaked up through my skin.
