What should I ask if I sell my Baur TC?

I'm CONSIDERING with much hesitation selling my Baur. The only reason is there is a house I would like to buy and need to free up some cash. If I can't free up my 401k, I may need to let her go. :-(

But I have no idea what I should ask. I don't think any of the Baurs I've seen sell on Ebay are quite what I have.

If you came across this and were looking for a Baur, what would you pay?

It's a 1985 320i, Euro import. Was bought at a dealer in Munich at imported a month later. Carfax shows one accident, but must have been very minor because as far as I can tell it just looks like a repaint on the driver quarter panel, possibly a new fender.

    The good:
It's got 86k on the ODO.
    I upgraded suspension to Koni.
Shift knob is the lighted M one piece from Turner.
Everything is manual. The tranny, windows, steering, locks. Only thing power is the mirrors. :-)
It's got new brakes all around (nothing special) with just 2k on them.
TONS of life left in the tires, almost full tread.
"New" AFM and another one for good measure
    "New" Computer
    "New" Check panel
    New belts
    New Battery
Entire interior swapped to Black sport leather from a 1989 325is. I have the original interior and it would be included with the sale.
Old school Alpine cd player head unit
Paint is very good. Could use a professional detail, but very nice.
There will be tweeter pods installed if he ever gets them in the mail.
New NGKs have 2k on them
It escaped most of the ugliness in Federalization. It's got all the euro bits, and had running lights put on the bottom bumper covers which are an easy remove and patch. Just never got around to it.

    The bad:
Needs pad wear sensors. They're $5, I just never did them. I may do them before sale though.
The chrome trim around the window is bad. I have it, just didn't install it.
The hood lining is bad in the engine bay is bad. I have new lining, not installed yet. May do so before sale.
The rear deck is still beige. I may have it dyed before sale.
There are no speakers in the car. I was holding out for a good set of MB Quarts.
Very very very minor rust blip here and there from road debris
When I swapped the interior, I por-15d all the floor pans, but the passenger front floor pan could stand to be replaced one day. it's thick with por-15 for now and will be fine for the forseeable future. Just something I wanted to do one day.
The tool kit is missing some tools, but hey, the original glovebox flashlight is there. :-)

Other than what I mentioned, it needs nothing. I wanted to change the exhaust, but there's nothing wrong with this one, just think it would sound nicer with a performance exhaust.

So if you came across this car, what would you offer?

    Nice ride!

Almost impossible to put a price on it. I would start with a price that will make you happy....then go down from there.

Fix all the little stuff instead of listing it...... G/L

Good point on getting the minor stuff fixed, sounds like a quick afternoon.

I would say 6500. Perhaps more if you get great pictures on roadfly, roundel and ebay...

      Dont touch your 401k.

For as rare as it is--list for 10,000 and work down from there. There are some serious collectors out there and you just need to put your car in front of the right buyer. If I am correct, the Baur is rarer than the E30 M3, at least in the states.

Why do you think you'd have trouble freeing up your 401K? You should be able to with a minimum of fuss, especially if you're a first time homebuyer.

That's got to be the weirdest sidemarker placement I've ever seen on an imported euro car.

Best place for them tho, they're not in the actual body of the car, much easier to hide/fix.

Thanks for the input guys. So.... anyone want to buy it? haha I would much rather sell it to an enthusiast/collector, would hate to see the car get trashed from some idiot.

I likely will take an afternoon and fix all that stuff...

Do you guys think I should just dump some store brand speakers in it, or leave it empty? I just didn't want to waste money on crap. I also only drove it in nice weather, so I wasn't planning on putting rears in it since the targa cover covers it all up.

I would LOVE to get $10k from it. Just can't really sit on this house too long waiting for the car to sell. Like if it sold tomorrow, that would be great. :-) I want to put in an offer like...tomorrow morning.

I am a first time home buyer, not sure what it takes to get out my 401k though. My 401k isn't huge and has been bleeding out lots of $$ anyway, so I've been thinking about trying to move it somewhere else even if I didn't buy a house. This house is everything I've been looking for, but never thought it would come along so I'm not prepared at all to buy a house. I should have been saving this whole time instead of blowing money on my Baur. :-) Live and learn I guess!

I'd definitely by another e30 after I got all settled in the house, unfortunately I don't think I'll ever find another like this. :(

Oh, and blue devil, thanks for the offer. I actually have the chrome trim too, just never got it installed. Didn't want to do that myself, my brother knows a window guy...

the tragedy is that the rarity/sentimentality of a car like a baur is all but lost on most non-enthusiasts. if some potential buyer knows nothing about the baur models to begin with, you're going to have a hard time explaining to him why he should pay any more money than he would for a regular US convertible of equal condition.

The house is out on the border of Hamburg/Boston. After living on the west side ghetto and then moving to Cheektowaga only to have my neighbor accidentally shoot a gun into my bedroom while on vacation, I'm moving far far away from people. :-)

edit: the west side is actually pretty decent if you're not living in the ghetto. I live in the elmwood village part and it's beautiful
