I've always wanted to know, do all E36 motors (M50, M50tu, M52, S50, S52) qualify to pass BAR?

    Or only the M50/2 ?
    R.I.P 07/01/09 - 04/23/10 :(

All E36 motors in an E30 are Ref-able swaps, the donor just has to be a later year ( newer ) to be eligible.

Yep. And you either stick with obd2 and do all the extra shit it needs to pass BAR or go with obd1 to make it simpler, not necessarily easier haha.

if you live in an 'enhanced' testing zip code, you have to go to a gold seal certified station, and you won't be able to buy your way through the testing process no matter how much money you throw at them.
the scrutiny at the referee stations is very uneven. some stations will pass you with aftermarket cats, non-carb certified intakes, minimal vin verification, etc. other stations will put you through the wringer.
if you are running obd1 on a twincam, make sure you tell them that it is a pre-95 motor and make sure it LOOKS like one. if your swap is clean looking, with neat wiring and a professional appearance, it will get less scrutiny than a hack job swap.
the referee process isn't hard to get through, you just have to be ready for it.

I think you will be fine. Or atleast if you go where I go. They don't really look at anything. The guy just comments on how clean the engine bay is (not clean at all, but maintained) and then complains about BMW's complexity actually he says Bee-em dubya and then performs the test and then tells me to get my car outta the bay.

Nice! What part of SD? I was planning on Fallbrook, but Dad left Escondido, went to Tuscon.

So now I can live anywhere I can afford...but not El Cajon...never ever again.

                Closing SOON!
"LAST CHANCE FOR G.A.S." DEAL IS ON NOW

Thanks for 10 years of fun!

I remember you telling me you were moving down. I was waiting for you to hook up my 525. This is a shop in SouthEast. Before when fast and the furious was bigger all the ricers went there too. But I've been to a few and they seem lenient. If it comes down to it you can always go to those shops owned by the Vietnamese. They don't care either and are easy to buy.

With the housing market you can live pretty much anywhere, too bad I don't have any money to invest. El Cajon does suck, worked out there for like 4 years. Hate it and now its the highest sales tax in the San Diego area. Plus they got those red light cameras at every intersection, that whole town is about getting money plus it is hot as hell.
