Help me ID this Vintage BMW Radar Detector

My brother recently pulled this vintage radar out of a 87 325e at the local Pull-A-Part. We're not sure what to make of it or if it's worth anything. I've already Googled it to no avail.

It's designed to mount in BMW's under the HVAC controls. The Microprocessor was mounted behind the grill.

    Here are some pics:

I know I've seen a thread on one of these within the past month or so. It was either here or at e30tech.

Wow thats fucking cool. Ive seen aquite a few "factory" radar detectors, but never this one. I like that display! Probably not too accurate though, as the technology back then wasnt good at all.

My moms old 735iL ('91) had one of those; all I can tell you is that it came installed from the dealer (probably a dealer accessory)

K40 detectors that were available through BMW that had the BMW logo on them

They also had a version that had remote rear detection as well

            :p

$30 shipped and it's yours. As cool as it is I have a Passport 8500 you will have to pry from my hands before I ever give it up.

I don't have the 3rd box or the buld thingy that guy in the e30tech thread had. My brother is going back Monday to see if he missed anything.

definitely K40, my first '87 325is had one in it, and it wasn't worth a shit. it would detect a cop shooting you with radar when you were like 50 feet away, FWIW.......

                    ;)

It would be cool if there was a way to integrate this to work with my Passport so I could keep the little control box for the neato vintage appeal it has.

My dad's 535i had one of those, it SORTA worked when we first got the car - but definitely not anytime recently. Poor car is gone now though...GM auto tranny died, and my dad was lucky to get $700 for the car...about 201,000 on the M30. I'll miss that car...I never even got to say goodbye... :(

Kinda cool. My car had an old dealer installed Escort or something I just ripped out, had a big box like that attached behind the grill.

I ripped it out and trashed it.

my 635csi has one. It detects automatic sliding doors like a champ but hasn't alerted me of a po-po yet. Maybe it scares em away though cuz I cruise at like 20 over on average and haven't passed one in the year or so since i've had it on the road.
