In Oregon, after 9 years, odometer readings don't even have to be accurate anymore.

You know it's not just the odometer at this point, it's that I need a brand new top, that wasn't mentioned, and there are holes in the seat that weren't mentioned, and was told the top was in great shape, and there were no rips in the interior.

Next time fly out and inspect the car before you pull the trigger.

I bought an e46 convertible for my better half from a large online seller a few months ago, and we flew in to Houston, picked up the car, then spent a night in New Orleans on the way home.

Meals, French Quarter hotel room, plane tix, and gas (for two of us) for the return trip totalled around $600.

I also flew out to Pasadena a couple of years ago and drove her e30 vert back here, and we only spent around $500 for that trip. Did it in two days.

It can't hurt to contact the seller and ask him (politely) to absorb some of the cost for repairs. If he's any kind of honest guy, he'll admit that he misled you and cough up a few bucks.

If he says "no", you're only out the cost of a phone call.

True.. Maybe I should just show up at his door shaking, crying, and all sweaty, throw up on his shoes and tell him that he just ruined my children's college fund. That I was banking on the car being in excellent condition, so that I could cash out on it's "classic car" status in a few years. I can't imagine him turning me down for that..

Mine (in the sig) was advertised as mint. Didn't pick it up in person..
                  1. Slight rust
                  2. Rear window was useless (albiet not cracked)
                  3. Would rain as much inside the car as outside with the top up
                  4. Lied about timing belt recoreds (it's an m40..)
                  5. One of the front calipers was holding with 1 screw and the other half way in
                  6. Missing a bunch of small trim and crap.

I got pissed. smoke a cigarrette, and fixed it all in a month.

Feel free to im me with cabrio specifics.

You seem to be looking at E30's in the wrong way. There are many other cars that would make good investments, E30's are cheap old cars that are loads of fun to modify and drive. If you are looking for an investment and want to sell the car later on and make enough for your child's tuition, look elsewhere. A leaky top isn't the end of the world, it's a shame, it will cost a good amount of money to fix, but not something to get bent out of shape about. Just fix what needs to be fixed and enjoy the car.

dude..... I was completely kidding about the above comment.. I was being sarcastic, I don't even have kids. I'm just going to get a new top, maybe replace the back seat some day, and enjoy it.

Get a hardtop and be done with it. Cheaper than a cloth top and drastically better.

Thanks. Working on something special so I can put the Remembers onto my E21, but they're taking longer than I ever thought they would.
