    My E30 becomes hers

Now before everyone freaks out, let me tell you all what's going on. :D

My wife drives a '91 Ford Explorer that is one the brink of falling apart. It runs like shit, has way too many miles, and looks even worse. She needs a new car BAD. The problem is, we can't afford to buy her a new car.

So I proposed that she by my E30 from me for the price I paid for it, and I am just going to save that money until I get my license back an buy another one, a manual (so I don't have to do the tranny swap).

I feel like this is the right thing to do, since it's not very fair that I have a perfectly running BMW that I can't drive while she has a peice of shit, and she CAN drive. She's very excited about the idea, since she has really grown to like E30's. (Add to that we will be able to cruise up to the NW E30 Picnic together. :D)

The pros to this are that I won't have to do an auto-to-manual swap, I can keep looking for another E30 that doesn't need any paint or bodywork (which she doesn't care about), and my wife gets to cruise around in style in a BMW. Not to mention if anything goes wrong with the car, I know I can fix it. And we know how safe they are in an accident!

She is going to buy if from me.

If she doesn't I'll have no money to buy another.

What she'll have the Ford to trade in on another vehicle when you get more $ situated. Or just fix the Found On Road Dead.

We'd have to PAY a dealership to take this thing...

Repairs on it would FAR outwiegh the cost of what this car is even worth.

Try getting rid of it at Carmax. We washed, waxed and detailed my wife's '96 Cavalier and got a respectable amount even though it was high mileage, the AC didn't work right and the head gasket was beginning to fail. We ended up buying my wife a new Matrix and had no regrets getting rid of it at Carmax (they gave us waaaaay more than the dealer was offering). Or... donate it. The tax writeoff may be worth it. Talk to your accountant to see if its right for you.

Sounds like a great plan Josh. As long as you DO get another E30 by the time you get your license back!

Word. If you itemize your deductions, definitely think about donating it. Charities don't give a shit, or at least the one we donated an old truck to. You just tell them what blue book value is for it and they write you a receipt for it.

Why isn't this e30 right for you Josh (other than the tranny)?

I can see it now. "His" and "Hers" car covers.

Hope she enjoys it! Hurry up and find another one soon.
