No, it really isn't. If it were, then you would be excluded from getting a license by default and you would have to earn the right to get a license. As it is, you only have to apply and take the test. That isn't earning the privilege. It is more of a privilege in Germany for example because they have much more comprehensive driving schools and requirements. But it is expensive.

A right is something that is innate. You have a right to freedom in the US. However, you break the laws, you lose that right. A privilege is something earned or given pretty much exclusively to you. Since driving cannot be denied you if you don't break the law, then it really isn't a privilege is it?

Absolutely! That is why the US system of "driver's training" and licensing sucks. We don't have a system. We have a one time test that only really tests you knowledge of traffic laws, not if you are a competent driver or not.

It doesn't change the fact that this moron committed one crime, driving without insurance, and tried to perpetrate another by leaving the scene of an accident. Some people shouldn't be driving, but it is difficult to keep people from driving when they are not supposed to because of our systems.

To the OP, I am sorry this happened to you, twice. I hope you can get the damage fixed with no further trauma to you or the car.

tell that to someone who has just paid 1200 bucks to have his bumpers rechromed. bumpers are not there to act as brail for shitty drivers. i never park anything i care about anywhere. im in it or its in my garage. daily drivers another story. people are idiots

x2 my bronzit is my beater and its a good thing because it is always getting dinged. If I do have to drive my red car anywhere and leave it I make sure I find a distanced parking spot. never a guarantee, but it at least betters the chances. :-/

Wow. So I just got back from getting the damage estimated by an AllState agent and for the front and rear damage they said 600$!?? WTF?! He said since there was a small scratch on the other side of the rear bumper they would only pay to paint half the bumper?! Also that the front bumper would just be touched up. Bull shit.

You have to pass the written and performance tests to get a driver's license. You don't have to pass a test to be able to engage in free speech or attend the church of your choice. Those are rights. Driving is a privilege. /stupid argument.
