E36 323isA, nuff' said. I'd just opt for something with an M50 and teach the girl how to drive stick.

the 323iS had the nicest interior of all the non M E36s IMO. I'd say go for it but seriously, look for something in a 5 speed. If the woman knows how to drive a stick then she can drive anything classified under a C class license. It probably the best thing a person can do is to learn stick. It makes driving an auto a walk in the park and it doesn't pose a problem if she ever needs to drive a friend’s car home or something if its a a stick.

I'd say, in a sense of, nice car ness, go for it. But as for a learning experience, go for a 5 speed.

                just my

auto m3's are down around that price cuz no one would buy one in their right mind. That's where you swoop in!

But yeah, 8k for an auto m3 is a lot more car than that 323is, and well worth the price increase. Autos are more likely to have been owned by old boring people and less beat on as well.

Easy. Always pick the girl with the bigger rack.

                    Edit: Sorry, wrong thread.

We just took her 01 Volvo S40 to Carmax, where I was dreading going. She just wants out of the car, and I understand that. They told her they would give her 2k for it, and she was actually considering it.

Shes pretty clueless about the whole car buying/selling transaction, and its apparent in this text I just got, "there is an 04 645ci convertible for 6900 on craigslist... its the one listd 2day"

Is that the M52TU engine in that? It is what I have in my E46. I think the price on this car is a tad high maybe, but don't let the engine worry you. If it is the M52TU, it is listed at 170hp, but most people suspect that BMW is understating that value by about 10hp to keep more definition between the 323is and the 328is. The 323i has a 2.5l engine btw.

My car isn't a hp king, but it clips right along nicely. The E36 would be a tad quicker too because it is lighter. You will find the performance is about as good as a stock E30 325i, but it will be a lot smoother and more refined.

It will be a great grocery getter that gets good gas mileage and will be a blast to drive. What's wrong with that?
