What bugs me isn't the fact that we wont get it, it's the fact that BMW has dropped research on a lightweight sports car to focus on SUVs. We always knew the US wouldn't get it anyways.

the CSL only really appeals to hardcore BMW fanatics that are rich as fuck. there is a huge price discrepancy between the GT-R and the CSL, most people looking to drop a large amount of money on a sports car would probably never even look at the CSL with the kind of price tag that BMW was suggesting. it's a prestige buy

the GT-R is a lot of car for a good price. to release the CSL would have been an idiot move on the part of BMW's marketing team. there is simply a much larger market for a BMW SUV. this announcement should be no surprise to anyone who really put any thought to it.

It's not about the marketing or making money, it's about the principle. SUV > CSL = FTL

I know they would take a financial hit on it, I get it. But They didn't make any money on the first E9 CSL, or the E46 CSL, or the 507, and those are 3 of the greatest BMWs ever.

are they still making the M1 ?

i want one in black, i am actually amazed i found the m1 after posting about it earlier, but to add to above post about the amazing supercars that bmw has made, it is a shame to blow off a few hundred or even thousand new m3csl's

Germans have officially sold out.. Porsche making diesel SUVs, BMW finally making M SAV's..

CSL would never be sold here anyway.. the people willing to pay that kind of money cannot even imagine not having a car without A/C and a radio.

Not to mention all the dumb spoiled teenagers would kill themselves and their friends ;)

The only thing that would make me happy about this business strategy is if the new M Powered X5 and X6s are as mad as their concept a few years back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC33J-zMR78 - X5 LeMans V12 review by Hans Stuck

I don't think the new M1 is actually going to be a production model just yet, that one was an homage concept to the original, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original.

I hadn't yet seen that profile shot of the car yet, I don't really like it from the front, but it looks really good from the side.

Psst, the 135i is the new CSL.

                    Hell, it's the new M3.

No, it isn't. It weighs as much as a E46. No real diff. and Turbos. Sheesh.

                        Correct.

And yes, the 135i is the new M3. The E90 M3 is the new M5.... the next M5 might as well be the new 7 series.

True. But my x5 is the best car I've driven to date for daily use. I'm not surprised that the demand is high for these things. I would LOVE to get my hands in a true ///m version of the x5.

Out of curiosity how much does a 135i weigh? Diffs are easily swapped. But they do offer an LSD right. Turbos? Yeah finally we get some REAL torque. Especially once all the tuners start releasing more programing.

I have to say, that would be pretty badass. Did anyone see that video of the V12 LeMans X5 being piloted around the 'Ring in anger by Hans Stuck? That thing had ZERO body roll, even around the tightest bends. If BMW could produce an ///M X5 that made even half the power that thing was making (like 750 hp or something?), and give it sport suspension, it would probably be a blast to drive. I know most of us aren't SUV fans, but we're not the market, and some people do make good use of them.
