B-post good, drunk drivers bad. As formentioned luck he was hit in that spot and did not smack his head. Glad to hear he is well. On a side note I wish the U.S. would adopt the laws of Germany and DUI enforcement.

The other drivers were not drunk from what I understand. Just not paying attention. I will try to get pics of the Bornzit tomorrow. I will post them when I do.

Glad to hear that he is alright.

You may want to share how you mounted your E36 seats. I have seen some shady installs. Looks like you installed yours correctly to withstand this impact.

I used 1/4" flat bar. I made a pattern from a piece of cardboard form sitting the old seats on them lining up the inside of both seats and marking the holes. I then cut the pieces out to give enough room around the holes and copied them to the 1/4" flat bar then I just mounted them to the seats and set the seats in and bolted them up. I cut the seat belt bar and shortened it by 5" and welded it back together with 100% weld. I then drilled a new hole for the end of the shorted bracket. and reinforced it the a thick over sized washer. Seems it worked well. I have another set I plan on putting in my 91 318is. I will try to get a pic of the mounting tomorrow on the passenger side since the door opens fine on that side of the car.

Wow am not a dad but I have some nieces and nephews who I would not want to see in a car crash. Good thing he's okay. Nice job on getting a replacement immediately.

My son is also 16 years old,and is learning to drive in this madhouse known as NYC.I recently bought an '89 ix auto to teach him on,and to pass on to him when he gets his license.Your thread really carries a lot of significance to me,as it shows how well an e30 is able to withstand such a violent impact and keep its occupant safe. Thanks for sharing your son's experience and thank goodness he made it through ok.

Glad your son is OK. If you let him drive the vert he will probably fall in love with it and you may never get it back.

Thanks for all the kind words. My other sons girlfriend was in a wreck this morning and he is at the hospital with her right now and we are waiting to hear from him on her condition. Man what is it with all the crazy drivers now days.

An update, I got a call from the officer that worked the wreck and the other person was 17 and they did have insurance. Now its just a matter of settling with the insurance so we can start work on the new car. I hope to get the vert home today that I bought. I can at least let him drive that until we get the bronzit up and running.
