i would not pay 2500, but most likely I wouldn't be getting that car, unless it was for parts. lol

In your case however, when you want something, you pay what the man asks for it. Unless you're trying to negotiate yourself out of the sale. Just because he's a used car salesman, doesn't make him a slime-bag. On the other hand, you being a HS student, trying to renegotiate and insult him make you seem like a brat.

You either want it or not. And have you sold your car yet to pay for this one? If not, why are you even bothering this guy?

      Records, rust, repainted?

He's the seller, you're the buyer. Don't be afraid to get the car on a lift to check out the undercarriage. Any leaks? Where has the car been all of its life? Has the motor been opened up? If documentation is provided, check for the repacement of rocker arms, the timing belt, various seals and gaskets, etc. Judging by the pictures, I wouldn't go above $2100-2200.

I offered 2,200$, but he said he has already had a couple people interested in the car at 3,500$, which I think is ridiculous. The previous owner didn't have any documentation so I assume he doesn't either. I think I could find something better for the money. Let me know if you find a solid car local man!

Yea, Julien I contacted him and gave him my best offer explaining what I had heard from the previous owner, and the problems it had now. He said he is firm, so I'll probably look for something cleaner.

No arguement here, there are better ways to phrase your posts.

BTW, It doesn't matter what age you are, you negotiate to get something at a good price.

yeah, thats funny because i bet this car would sell easier if they removed the strut bar.

its like a sign in front of the car saying 'the previous owner was hard on this one..."

And in this case I would say it is a terrible price. Just keep looking and you will find a decent car. No records, possibly fraudulent mileage? That driver seat makes the whole interior look like rubbish, airbag as well. And that paint looks

But, I'm not buying the car you are! So if the guy can get you to pay 3k or even 2k for that thing good job on his part!

as a comparison. I just bought a 88 is with 300+ on the clock. There is very minor surface rust over passenger rear tire, and floor board. The timing belt and water pump where replaced 4k miles ago. Interior is good except driver seat. Compression was good on the motor. I paid 1k for it. But looks were not an issue for. I just wanted a straight shell to start my project.

There are no honest car salesmen. If you can't get him to drop his price. Be patient something better will come along.
